  1. Which animals do you support with your blankets?
All of them! We\'ve provided blankets for cats and dogs, as expected...but we\'ve also comforted guinea pigs, Fennec foxes, fancy rats, rabbits, and even tigers, with our blankets.

  2. Do you just work with shelters, or foster-care rescue groups as well?
We support all groups which provide care for animals in need. Many of the organizations on our list do not have an actual shelter, but care for the animals in a series of foster-homes. We are grateful for the sacrifices of these volunteers, and happily do our part in providing as many blankets as they need.

  3. Is the program completely free for the shelters?
Yes, 100%! We provide the shelters with free blankets and even pay for the shipping. This can range from $15 a box for local shelters to $35 a box when we ship to the west coast. Do not even ask what it costs to ship to Hawaii and Alaska! We just save up our funds and are happy to support shelters in all fifty states!

  4. Can I send blankets to any shelter, even one not on your list?
You are certainly welcome to send your blankets wherever you like. However, not every shelter wants blankets, can use blankets, and almost none send them home with the pet when they are adopted. Some shelters also sell blankets to raise money, so your blanket will certainly help the shelter, but will not be placed with a homeless pet. The shelters on our list have committed to sending them home with their adopted pets. They also have indicated that they would like handmade blankets, created from fleece or yarn. They will know how to care for these blankets too!

  5. I suggested a shelter, but I don\'t see that they\'ve been added to the list. Why is that?
If you have suggested a shelter, they have been contacted (probably multiple times!). If they are not added to the list it is because they are not interested in participating. Shelters choose not to participate for a few main reasons. Sometimes they are just too busy to reply to my emails or provide the basic information I need. Sometimes just passing out blankets is one more thing they do not have time to do. These shelters are generally overworked, so we certainly understand. Other times they do not want handmade blankets, which they fear will be more difficult to launder. A few have suggested that they do not want the pets nails to get stuck in the yarn. These shelters are certainly in the minority, since we support over 100 shelters which love yarn-created blankets. Our only requirement is that they allow the pet to take the blanket home when they are adopted. Some would rather recycle the blanket for new arrivals. Again, we understand their position, but a big part of our mission is to comfort the pet as they adjust to their forever family. So we do insist on this aspect of the program.

  7. Is there a shelter near me which participates in your program?
Please check out our Animal Shelters & Humane Societies Supported page to see the list of shelters which participate in your state. If one is close enough you can drop off your blankets directly. Otherwise you can ship your blankets to the closest shelter in your state. We have signed up shelters in every state, since in-state shipping is fairly inexpensive and less expensive than shipping out of state. If it\'s easier or you prefer, do feel free to send them to CFC headquarters in Glen Ellyn, IL for us to distribute. We\'d be happy to do so! If you know of a great shelter near you, which is not on the list, please send us an email and we will do our best to sign them up for our free program!

  8. Can I sign up the shelter near me to your program?
We would love to add a highly recommended shelter to our free program. Please send us an email with their name, city and a contact name if you have it. We will contact them directly about our program, to see if they\'re interested. Thank you!

  9. What qualifies a shelter to be added to the CFC program?
We would love to support each and every animal shelter, but unfortunately our resources are quite limited! For this reason we are focusing on adding the best of the best to the list of shelters we support. A shelter is added to our list if they are highly recommended and have some local support (ie. local volunteers who also make blankets). We also require that they allow the pet to take their blanket home when they are adopted. Not all shelters want to do this, but it is a big part of our mission!
