Message:   Not only that, here in OR (probably its happening in several states), some people ( are either buying/getting free horses from auctions for horsemeat to eat them. Horses are shot in the head or throat slitted in their garages/shop. I know its hard to believe that it is happening. I know the Woodburn auction is starting to refuse lame/unsounded/sick horses as the meat buyers are getting the horses from auctions closer to Canada/Mexico .
Am done with breeding. That's why Sovina is up for sale (yes the rumor is true) for a hefty price as a stallion to the right person (prefer someone who has Lusitanos/old type Andalusians, I have had 2 offers on him) or geld him. I am working the possibly to send him back to Portugal which I rather do this way he will be w/his kind than just crossbreeding. Am glad I was careful on limit and selected mares, he has a total of 9 foals, and the best cross ever was Ingo out of a old bloodline PSP Andalusian mare, who is the only male offspring of his that will remain as a stallion & to be a future Grand Prix Dressage horse w/well known dressage trainer/rider/judge Jan Mower. He is expecting 1 foal this yr out of an Champion Polish chestnut Arabian mare who carried titles from the Scottdale Arabian show. It was not my intention to crossbreed as I had planned to import a Sorraia filly, its very unlikely it will happen and makes sense not to, if the mare has a filly the only Sorraia stallion would be the 1 in Canada, and if that filly has a filly, its the Sorraia colt in Brasil to breed to through shipped semen, then if that filly has a filly, it stops there. Shipped semen from Portugals Sorraia stallions isn't going to happen from what I know through connections in Portugal.
I think the USA needs to have strict breeding practices and limit of foals as in Europe.
The AQHA is now working on guidelines on breeding practices.
3 of my good Iberian (Andalusian & Lusitano) breeders are getting out of the breeding business.
Its an eye opener.
