Message:   to my knowledge you have to use a bit in all driving classes. personally i wouldnt risk hitching a horse without a bit, as driving is very different from riding and in a lot of ways a lot more dangerous. i have never seen a horse driven in a bitless bridle, nor have i ever met anyone who has. is there a phyysical reason why your boy cant wear a bit? or is it just a mental issue? i would suggest not taking him out of the arena if hes going to be actually hitched in a bitless bridle. most people wont drive in an open feild unless their horse is in a "liverpool" bit or something equally as strong. the other big downsisde to a bitless bridle is that you cant use an over-check-rein or side-checks. an over-check-rein (also known as an over-check-bridle) as well as side-check-reins keep your horse from lowering his head to far and either grabbing the bit and leaning into it while galloping away with you, or sucking up behind the bridle and equally bolting off. they also keep your horse from getting his head down far enough to give a good buck and kick the cart! but either way id like to know how he goes in your bitless driving bridle, like i said ive never seen it done before. a lot of people used to say your couldnt ride a jumper in a hackamore, but now days many top jumper riders ride their top horses in mechanical hackamores! so you never know until you try. let us know how it goes :)
