Message:   The advice given by GrapeDragon is right on. You cannot show anywhere unless the horse is bitted up.

It is VERY dangerous to consider driving a horse without a bit. You can drive in a snaffle. A liverpool is an excellent bit, there are many degrees of leverage to attach your lines. You can hook to the big ring, (next to the mouth piece) and have no leverage, or you can move the lines down to the other rings for varying degrees of severity. I use the word severity, but the only severity involved with driving is how you handle the lines. The way we teach our new drivers how a leverage bit works is to have them hold the mouthpiece in the open palm of their hand and then "rock" the bit with the other hand, at each line attachment. Then they understand how the chin chain works depending on where the lines are attached to the bit.

We will fire people if they hook up to a carriage without the bridle and lines attached, and never take the bridle or lines off until the horse is fully unhitched from the vehicle.

The first rig we put a green horse on is always a two wheeled cart, they are much harder to tip over than a four wheeled vehicle.

Good luck, you will LOVE IT! Driving is alot of fun, we try to teach all of our horses to drive. It gives them and you more variety and all the neighbors enjoy watching.
