Message:   Thank you both for the advice,
I guess I may have the vet out for another check on Ne-Ga- Ho and go from there as I do want to show him in the following years. I was told at the time that the scar tissue could be removed after he matured.
I do not know exactly what happened to him, he has a very heavy scarring on the inside of his mouth, under his lower lip and it comes up about two inches on the outside left side. When I first first got him it was the suggestion of the vet not to place a bit in his mouth as it was healed well but quite sensitive. That of course was two years ago so it may be that with time it has tightened up to where the possibility is there of being able to carry a bit well. We have placed a bit in his mouth and he accepted it well but have not applied any pressure to it, I guess I am just a overly concerned person on putting any hardships on my horses.
I start riding all of my horses out in the round pen with a Monty Roberts training halter on and then move on to the soft rawhide Bosal Hackamore. I like the M.R halter as I do not like to use a stud chain and this halter is strong, carries a under the chin two rope line that will apply some pressure if needed. I am used to the old Indian way I guess, as children we had some that we rode in parades with just a rope around their necks and dressed to fit the part. A lot depends on the horse, the training and your own judgment on your safety level.
As children we had the ponies with the two wheeled cars and yes, I agree, they can get away with you. I have very vivid memories of one incident, we covered a lot of ground in quite a short time.
Thanks again for your help
