Yes there is some similarity between the Sorraias and Sulphurs, although they are very different in conformation and movement, and temperament.
Thank you for your kind words about Sovina, I am very thankful to have such a special breed. Sovina was a yearling when he was imported to the USA. He was feed on foal grain and feed for growing foals (Alfafa and grass hay and mixed).

The breeding farms in Portugal are something! Makes me want to be a horse and live there! ha ha The mares are used for breeding, some are used well for equistraian, the stallions are used the most for equistraian, even there were 6 years old riding stallions, those kids are EXCELLENT riders! They are feed grass hay and oat hay and the grain is rolled oats, and there are vitamin supplements if the breeder or horse owner wishes to add to the grain. What I was amazed is the dapples on many of the horses coats, even the Sorraia's coat, that I know it is normal for SOvina to have some dappling on his coat.
I havent seen all of the Sorraias, many I have seen are between 12 half hands to under 14 hands, the gelding Sorraias tend to be the tallest, which is due to being castrated before they were fully matured. There is a well known Sorraia gelding that is famous in Portugal that has never been touched by a fighting bull. The Sorraias are classified as a endangered species and a breed. There is a strong interest in the Sorraias in Portugal because the Sorraia is a rare breed. There is now a Sorraia studbook which I had the honor to look at the book, it is now being reviewed by the Government and if accepted, it will be avaliable to the public, it is in Portuguese, it does have photos of the early Sorraias when Ruy (who-e) first discovered the Sorraias, they were like a hybrid of a zebra cross that they were once called Zebros.
I am positive that the Sorraia breed standard is no over than 14.1 hands. I am not sure if Sovina would be classified as too tall for the Sorraia breed standard if he was in Portugal.
Again feel free to post any more questions!
