Harry Dobson

Hi,
My name is Simon, I am a great nephew of Harry Dobson who fought and died in the Spanish Civil War as a Welsh Volunteer in the International Brigade.
I have lookeed through the memorials on your site and would firstly like to thankyou for this. I doubt there is any other way I would have been aware of them let alone get to see them.
My uncle (Harry's nephew) has taken up the task of finding as much information as possible about Harry; from remaining siblings and other sources.
Fascinated by the subject, I too am trying to gether any information/pictures relavent to Harry's life and death.
I was interested in the photograph on the homepage to the website, is it a picture of the Welsh Brigadeers and specifically would you know who is included in the photograph?
Also, are there any other sources of information you think may be useful to us?

Many thanks and kind regards,

Simon

Re: Harry Dobson

Dear Simon,

Thank you very much for your message, it will be a pleasure for me if I can be of any help in your research.

Fisrt of all I would recommend you to check the Links section of this website because you will find other pages that may be relevant for you regarding images, data, etc.

Also I would recommend you to get the book "Miners against fascism", by Hywel Francis, in which there are images and information about Harry Dobson.

If you don't mind I will send you soon an e-mail with more specific information that I hope you will find useful.

Kind regards,
Antonio

Re: Harry Dobson

Hi Antonio,

Thanks for a kind and speedy response.
A copy of the book you mentioned "Miners against fascism" is currently within the family as is Bill Alexanders book "British Volunteers for liberty" and Robert Straddlings book about Wales and the Spanish Civil in which he offers some slightly different points of view.

I am now in the process of traversing as many links as I can find including those on your site.

Any further information or emails you wish to send would be greatly appreciated and warmly received.

Thanks again,
Simon
