Freaky Shopping Dream

HI

I had another dream...

I was shopping for food at a local supermarket, buying vegetables and in particular - potato!

But I got told by a lady that it was "too much and we wouldn't be able to eat them all" and so I put down the basket to start putting the vegetables back! However the shop owner came over and told me I wasn't able to put the basket down! I shook my head, and left the shop without purchasing anything!

As I about to get into my car, I came across a red van that I recognised as mum and dad's old car! I asked the woman how she got it, but she said "i'm not interested sorry, I just came to go shopping!" as if she thought I was trying to pick her up! But I replied "no no, you have misunderstood me, you're driving our old van and I want to know where you got it from! Can I sit inside it?"

She kept walking towards the centre and I was still trying to convince her to let me sit inside her (or my) van!

She walked into a baby clothing shop and bought a single sock! I explained to her that I would buy it for her because i was annoying her. She intitally refused but I gave the store owner my credit card... As I was signing the receipt, I forget to include the I in Craig and the owner asked me to re-sign a different receipt because he didn't think it was my card!

I tried to re-sign the receipt however I signed it CRIAG (with the I and A the wrong way around)... it was if I knew I was doing it as it happened!

Anyways, he said "I can't authorise this and I will have to phone the bank and the police!"
I just wanted my card back, but he refused! Eventually, a guy that I recall from real life (an owner of a dog that my dog used to socialise with) came on behalf of the authorities! He tried to explain something, but it wasn't in English (so I guess I wasn't supposed to understand?)

I then woke up...

Craigy,
Your back. I was worried that you had lost interest. We were beginning to have a real dialog. Two peas in a pod looking for love in all the wrong places.

I will take an in-depth look at this dream either later today or in the morning. If you wish you can post the other dream also for interpretation. They may help with the other's understanding.

Re: Freaky Shopping Dream

Craigy,
I've begun to digest your latest dream and see similarities to the other posted dreams. We may be beginning to see the dreams addressing the deeper issues to the causations or seeds to your present waking self {the conflicts}. I believe deep down you want to address the 'I' of your psyche and less the 'me' that you assert in your waking life {satisfying the urges}. That would indicate some moral {or logical} sense of your actions and a desire to remedy those things that lead you to do as you do. That would be a natural prgression since you have begun to take an interest in your previous dreams and their sigificance to who you are.

But I must take more time to transcribe the dream {I speak as if I know a lot don't I?}. Plus it is aready 9 AM in the morning and I have tasks I need to take care of {I want to keep my promise from yesterday so at least I will give some response}.

Do you have any sense to what the dream may be about? Any personal associations that stand out? That always helps.

Re: Freaky Shopping Dream

Well, the theme I think (and it ties into the other dream I think as well) is that I am slightly home sick!

However, I'll be home over the holiday season for a few weeks and catch up with everyone then... and the dog!!! that's ok...

But i want to know about the single sock bit and the fact that I signed my signature incorrectly twice! Am I crazy?

Re: Freaky Shopping Dream

Craigy,
What better place to meet women than a supermarket? You may even meet that 'hot' potato you have been 'dreaming' of. Meat is masculine, vegetables are feminine. But which do you choose? You can't have all of them.

Then the self weights in. You can't stop what you have already started {compulsions}. It is either one way or the other, you can't have both. But are you buying into that?

I believe from there the dream starts to get into the causes of your actions as much as anything. You want to know {perhaps stimulated by the posting of your dreams at the Forum} where these impulses came from {the old red van-red is the color for passion}. You want to get inside. Your dreams will take you there.

Here is where knowing more about your childhood may provide clues to your present day psyche. Were you an only child with a rather difficult attitude? The baby clothing shop may be addressing that aspect. But it is probably addressing this new found desire to learn more about the causes for your actions and attitudes as an adult. In doing that you must omit the I {as in look at me} and fopcus on the I, as in the greater Self.

The credit card may represent living on borrowed time. In time, if these compulsions {you are an admitted Ladies Man} are not confronted and put into its proper place, you will have to pay the piper for your actions {trust me - from an older, retired Ladies Man}. What goes around comes around. Your conscience {police} is acting up. The dog {animal instincts} is working on your behalf. This is the ego self weighting in. The ego doesnt give up so easily especially when it has unconscious influences supporting its cause {Freudian sex appeal}.

The incorrect signature? This person {compulsive ladies man} is not the real you, not deep down {many men who seek a variety of partners do it out of retaliation, wanting to get back at women for one reason or another}. If it were you would not seek out ways to overcome these negative aspects.

The sock? The reason I asked about being a only child. How that plays into the scheme of things is yet to be determined. But it could be important in discovering causations, the seeds to your manly prowess.

It is not in English {so I guess I wasn't supposed to understand?}. This may be your dreams which speak in metaphor and symbols and not literal 'English'.

But you do understand. What are you going to do about it? By exploring the inner self through self psychology you may learn more than you think.

Re: Freaky Shopping Dream

Not an only child..... I have had a rather close relationship with my sister for the 21 years that she been alive....

Does the fact that I want to sit in the red van mean that it (passion) gives me comfort?

I am not a ladies man in the sense that I want to or need to or will cheat on Anna.. just that Ive had sex with quite a few women... but does the red van indicate that I want to be passionate with more women?

Re: Freaky Shopping Dream

Craigy,
The red van could mean that {passion}. But since it is your parent's van {at least in the dream} as well as yours may suggest there are ties to the van that associate it with your parents. I see that as a possible reference to earlier life experiences that may have formed who you are today.

Like myself, the ladies man fixture you live with isn't something that is meant to hurt anyone. You can't help yourself. My own experiences were never to hurt anyone {I was married and dearly loved my wife at the time}. But there was this void I could not fill and had no clue at the time to what it was. Looking for love in all the wrong places.

It wasn't until I started my inner journey {psychological} that I discovered the underlying reasons for those feelings of a void. It stemmed from childhood experiences {many aspects that would take time to mention}. Once I did begin to understand these unconscious motivations, the less hold they had over me. Now that I have confronted my shadow I no longer have that void in my life. I understand 'myself', psychologically. That not only has changed me but has provided new direction and opportunities in my life. Myths-Dreams-Symbols, this Dream Forum, my spiritual Self are three of those new things.

One last comment on not wanting to harm anyone. No matter the intent, if you engage in outside relationship while committed to another, there most likely will be someone who is hurt. I know that from experience. I don't want that to ever happen again. I feel remorse, guilt, embarrassment, pain for all the harm I did to others during those times of selfishness. It hurts me to think of the pain I caused. That is only proper for a balanced psyche. I have developed new principles to live by because of those experiences. I hope you realize that you too will have similar emotions later in your life if you let unconscious forces {no matter the intentions} control your life. Sex is a forceful inherent aspect. But if it controls there will be consequences. There always is.

I will take a look at your last posted dream after I go to the gym. Another aspect of my new self is taking care of the temple. Not just because it is the spiritual thing to do but also because it is the logical thing to do {at 56 I do not suffer from the maladies most people my age are beginning to experience}. Physical fitness has been a part of my life since the late 70s. It was the first negative aspect about myself that I began to change, long before my self discovery psyche wise.

Logic is a great thing when having to confront reality.

Re: Freaky Shopping Dream

Hi Craigy

It is great to see this dialogue, and I would like to mention a few things that came up in me as I read your dream.

* wanting to get inside the red van that was your parents / yours
-> this could be a symbol for you life, and your wish to get inside your own life; it could also be your wish to retreat back into the safelty of your life whaen you were supported by your parents, and in particular your mother. This could be a symbol of being carried by the mother.

* buying on credit -> is like not paying your dues, delaying payment, and not really engaging in life, having what you want now and paying for it later

* buying the sock for the women -> the whole interaction with this woman seems to have an aspect of you wanting something from her, wanting to get her attention, wanting to do something to get her attention. Again this speaks to me of mother issues, and expanding that to women in general doing what you think you should do to get / keep their attention. The other path is to know yourself ,,, and I would hazard a guess that this may be knowing your own masculine

* the one sock -> incompleteness; what use is one sock.Socks are only useful if they are paired ,,, and so are we - both in the outer world ( in / through relationship, of whatever variety, but there is an acknolegdement of the relationship). A sock is only useful / complete in relation to its partner - it is still a sock if is only one but it is not complete.
A sock is another great dymbol of the feminine

* the baby store -> baby; new life; creation. New things / creation / life itself is created through union of the opposites - both within ourselves and in waking life.

Ah the mystery of the dream
All the best
