How do I fix a crack in my gourd?
I was working on one of my gourds this weekend and I accidentally dropped it. It's thankfully just a small crack, about two inches long. But I've already dyed it with leather dye. How do I fix the crack and not make the fix noticeable? I don't want to put acrylic paint on it. I'd like to stick with the leather dye, but I'm afraid any fix is going to show through the dye. Any help is greatly appreciated. |

Most people are faced with having a crack first before they start working on the gourd. In that case most people use regular wood filler. Gourdmaster Products at the Welburn website carries a filler especially for gourds. But most people are using acrylic paints who do it this way as wood filler often will not take a stain properly. Have you considered covering it up with an embellishment or gold leaf - somehow creating a new design element? |

Hi..When you find the answer to this question...how to fix it with dye on the gourd already, please let me know. Also, it would be nice when people talk in the forum, that they state what city and state they are from, so if who reads them, live close by, they can meet a new fellow gourd friend, and maybe talk on the phone, or meet in person if not live far away. Thanks...Sandy, from Lubbock, Tx 806-792-0585 home |

Hi Tricia, I came across your request for help in repairing a cracked gourd. I would recommend the wood filler to repair the crack and continue to use the leather dye using a eyedropper to apply the dye to the repaired area. I would dye it several times so that the wood filler would take on a deeper coat of color. I hope this helps Elizabeth http://www.sagewomancreations.com |
