2 legs or 4?
When we bought our first home in the country, the kids & I thought it was great that there was a horse living next door. A 27 yr. old horse, but still a horse just the same. One day his owner came up across the yard with a lead rope in hand and tears running down her cheeks and asked if I could help get the horse up until the vet got there. She had loved this horse since she was a little girl and now he was down with colic. I helped her get him up and eventually the kids all came to see what was going on. My oldest daughter was so in tune with animals and she was deeply moved by the old boys plight. As we were waiting for help to arrive, the old horse could not stand any longer and went down. From behind me there was a thud and the sound of a soft groan. I turned to see that my daughter had passed out from watching the horse go down and was sprawled out cold in the meadow. |
