Sephirot

Have you ever integrated the sephirot into your movement work, and do you know of any books or teachers who do so?
I have been told that Malchut is in the feet, for example, so I have been starting each day with a foot rub & stretch, and find myself more open to Divine flow during the day.

Re: Sephirot

Karen: Please look on the website for the book "Minding the Temple of the Soul" an excellent book to help someone integrate the sephirot with the body. There are controverises as to the exact location of the sephirot. malchut some say extends from the top of the legs into the feet. The tree is one way to look at the sephirot, another is a sphere where the center is the abdomen. You might find Rabbi Abner Weiss's new book on psychology and Kabbalah interesting. he is Orthodox. I have a friend who is studying Kabbalah and is quite involved with the sephirot and their location on the body. I can send along an email to him if you send me your question in an email.
You might also like Zvi Zavidowsky's book called Ophanim - he is located on the International page. Please write to him. He is very knowledgeable and Orthodox and he integrates the Hebrew letters with the sephirot on the body with a particular meditation(s).

Re: Sephirot

Hello Aviva,

The system of Jewish yoga called "Ophanim" integrates the sephirot through the use of breath and the "Yah" mantra while holding the postures of the Hebrew alphabet. It is a unique system of practice and although it has been called a Jewish yoga, I believe that it has some affinity to Qi gung as well. We teach this system at our center here in NY.

There is more information on the Nefesh Haya website, http://www.angelfire.com/pe/ophanim/

Re: Sephirot

Avivah,
I have studied and taught the Yud Heh meditation. Several years ago Rav Elharar wrote a book called "Ophanim - Yoga of the Hebrew Alphabet". From my understanding he is the one that introduced this teaching based on what he received from his teachers. Zvi Zavidowsky now teaches it and has traveled from Israel to the states to teach it. It is a wonderful Yoga, enjoy.

Re: Sephirot

Another helpful publication is "In my Flesh I see God" - a Treasury of Rabbinic Insights about the Human Anatomy - with many references to the Sephirot. The book is written by Avraham Yaakov Finkel and published by Aronson and is available from Amazon. This is a very traditional book, but some aspects from it can really trigger thoughts and associations with yoga knowledge and experience.
