Should also point out that Julie's debut solo CD, "At Last" is now available in Cleckheaton's Music Room. |

South Shields is a fair way from Cleckheaton I know, but we did have folks from Yorkshire travel to South Shields to see Julie Ellison support Ralph McTell last year, so hopefully this info is still appropriate: The Customs House Arts Centre in South Shields have published their new brochure which includes details of the Sixth Customs House International Guitar Festival (19th-24th July 2005). The festival features, in order of appearance, Eugene "Hideaway" Bridges, Midge Ure, Graham Gouldman (10cc), Dominic Miller (Sting's guitarist), Julie Ellison, Martin Simpson, Martin Taylor and Michael Roach. Workshops will be lead by Julie Ellison, Martin Simpson, Martin Taylor, Jimi Savage, Edward Box, Michael Roach and Dominic Miller. Julie Ellison's sessions are on Saturday 23rd July. Here is an extract from the festival programme: 11:45 am - Guitar Workshop: "Thinking Thumbs" - £7.50 Getting that six-fret stretch; clearing open strings; keeping separate finger-picked melody and bass parts going together; these things and more are controlled by your thumbs. Bring your guitar - and your thumbs! Questions about other aspects of playing are also welcome. 5:15 pm – Julie Ellison in Concert - £8 One of Britain's most exciting acoustic musicians, Julie has an impressive range of guitar styles: ragtime, country, blues, jazz, classical, folk and rock, all brilliantly played on solo acoustic guitar. Her blend of original songs and instrumentals have earned her a reputation as an outstanding contemporary artist, with a vocal style which has been compared to the likes of Joni Mitchell. Regulars at the Customs House may have seen Julie last year supporting Ralph McTell. Now, by popular demand, she's back with her own show. The new Customs House brochure is available for download in PDF format from www.CustomsHouse.co.uk. |
