Re: Ocean Cove help pleeease

Oceon Cove has been taken over by new owners & at this time is closed. Plans have gone to the District Council to close the Caravan Park & to build a site with many bungalows(chalets)instead. These will be sold off to people who want to buy a property they can use I believe for ten months of the year.
There a few people on the site at this time but I believe they had booked a long time ago to use the static caravans. The facilities of shop, swimming pool & bar/entertainment centre are closed.
Ocean Cove has been a holiday park for caravanners for many years since the Record family owned it but sorry to say...no more

Re: Re: Ocean Cove help pleeease

Oh that is such a shame. We absolutely loved staying there and have great memories too. I imagine it being quite a blow to the village by losing this business as I know Tintagel relies greatly on the tourist trade and Ocean Cove was so popular and very reasonably priced too, which is a rarity these days. I hate it when this type of 'progress?' happens and I genuinly feel sad about this.

Thankyou so much for providing this information, it's much appreciated.

Re: Re: Re: Ocean Cove help pleeease

Hi sarah
It is sad to see an old, well established business close down but all is not lost.
We have two excellent Camping & Caravan sites still in Tintagel, They may not have all the facilities of ocean Cove but all the really necdesary facilities are there. One is Headland Caravan Park & the other is Bossiney Farm Caravan & Camping Park.
Both have small shops on site & you can find FULL details on my Places To Stay page on the website with links to the websites of both FAMILY owned businesses

Re: Re: Re: Re: Ocean Cove help pleeease

Hi
we had stopped at ocean cove last year and had a great time and was very disappointed when we found out that it was no longer open.
As we really like our holidays in tintagel we booked a week at bossiney farm caravan & camping park which is directly opposite ocean cove, and had a great time.
I would highly recomend this site. The caravan& the site were very clean and the owners very friendly.
We also had lovely views from our caravan.
All i can say is that we cant wait to book again for next year.
You wont be disappointed!!

Ocean Cove Alternatives

You could try contacting Bossiney Farm Caravan Site which is directly opposite Ocean Cove or alternatively The Headlands Campsite which is on the coast near the Camelot Castle Hotel.
Good Luck.

Sarah

Re: Ocean Cove help pleeease

Thanks everyone for your help. As far as staying in Tintagel goes, we always stay at Bossiney if we get down there during camping season, prob been about 10 times over the last few years and love the site. Not stayed in a caravan though. We was going to come down for a few days the beginning of October as it was a birthday of one of our friends living in the village there. We couldn't make it as the short breaks didn't cover what we wanted unfortunately. That was what we liked about Ocean Cove, they were pretty flexible as well as being very reasonable with their prices, oh and sometimes we'd get it through the sun offers too! Oh well, it's definately not gonna stop us from coming down to the village just probably have to reserve it for camping only.

Re: Re: Ocean Cove help pleeease

It's sad to see Ocean Cove go - I've stayed there many times since the early sixties (around 20 times in all). In the early days all we could afford was the bottom field - No toilets or showers in the caravans - just the communal block. No running water at all in the caravans, in fact, we had to get it from a standpipe. To me Cornwall has always meant Tintagel, and Tintagel has always meant Ocean Cove – with it’s spectacular views over Bossiney Haven. I’ve seen the new owners web site at http://www.haulfryn.info/HHS/ocean/ and I doubt it will ever be the same.

Re: Re: Re: Ocean Cove help pleeease

Yep,
Haulfryn have put the site out of the reach of the ordinary folk who have enjoyed and respected the beauty of this place over the years.
The yuppies will take it over, and spoil Bossiney and Tintagel in the same way that they have ruined Padstow and Rock.
I know there are other sites, but the views from Ocean Cove are breathtaking, and lift the spirit every time you visit, no matter what the weather!
My family and I have visited regularly, several times a year, in all weathers since the early 50's,when the site first opened, and made many friends locally, and used to regularly meet up on the last week of the season (end of September then) for a party in the tow-bar with Pat and Alan, and crew.
Lots of lovely memories, but sadly, the end of an era

Re: Re: Re: Re: Ocean Cove help pleeease

I completely agree with you about the beauty from that spot and it is so sad that it has come to this. We have made lots of friends in the village too, and consider Tintagel to be a very special place, in fact it is like no other. The feeling there is just so relaxing and we feel completely at home there. I would hate for it to become over commercialised. It shouldt've no place for yuppies/townies and I hope it stays free of chavdom too. We're hoping to camp in Bossiney Cove this summer, as we couldn't make it last year but will always feel the loss of Ocean Cove.
