RE: Exerpt from"Pounding the Do Son Penninsula" 1972
I was Captain Deal's phone talker and anyone who served with him over there knew he loved the action. As I recall the Edwards was the last ship to turn around and proceed back to the gulf. At one point I thought the Captain was going to beach the Edwards. The first time under hostile fire I went to the bridge and found him on the port wing and as I was putting on the phones he pointed out the biggest splash I had ever seen and he was thrilled to death and told me, "Rhodes, we just earned our combat action ribbon." I can't print my answer.
