In ancient China, officials were selected through public examination. The subjects of examination were (a) Confucius, (b) Mencius, (c) Moderated Way, (d) Great Learning.

Here I have extracted from the "Moderated Way" some sayings that I consider worthy of consideration, and translated them into English (the webpage contains both the Chinese original and the English translation). It is my hope that through these, you may understand China better, the China before the Cultural Revolution.
