When we read [Lamentation of Jeremiah], the tragic situation seems to appear before our eyes.

We are living in peace today (at least in Hong Kong), and we would hardly think of disasters.

The Jews killed Jesus, and many years later, Jerusalem was destroyed by the Romans.

Josephus, a Jew who lived at that time, wrote a detailed history. But his story is terribly long to read.

which is Chapter one of the book "Views of Hebrew", a book published in 1823 (2nd Edition appeared in 1825).

Our parents have experienced wars; our parents were mostly refugees from China. They fled China during the China-Japan war, or during the civil war between the Communists and the Nationalists, or after the Communists takeover.

They have seen disasters, but we haven't. We, the new generation, enjoy peace almost unceasingly after the Second World War. And few would think of any judgement day of LORD.

LORD's rule is simple,

KEEP THE LAW => BLESSING BREAK THE LAW => CURSE

It may be said that the whole OLD TESTAMENT is but a testimony of this rule.

We believers of Jesus now have the "SOFTWARE" not to break the Laws/Commandments of LORD; whereas those who do not believe Jesus still retain their "SOFTWARE FROM ADAM", which is incapable of keeping the laws/commandments. This change of heart because of Jesus is a gift, much like your friend gives you "Microsoft's Office", or you download "freeware" from the Internet [Deut 30:11-14].

Therefore we Christian should all the more not break the laws/commandments of LORD, and foster this law-keeping spirit resolutely.

Moreover, this carries with it LORD's promise to show steadfast love to us to thousands [Ex. 20:4-6].

Jesus plainly told a young man who asked him how to attain eternal life, that he should keep the Ten Commandments. [Mt 19:16-20]

Jesus also plainly told us to keep the laws/commandments and teach others so. [Mt 5:17-20]

Only 4 are compulsory today [Acts 15], Eat not food sacrificed to idols Eat no blood Eat not strangled animal No unchastity but still WE SHOULD TEACH OTHERS ALL THE LAWS AND COMMANDMENTS ! and also tell them that LORD would not be fault-finding, would not condemn the guiltless and would be merciful, so as not to add burden to them like the Pharisees. Yet urge them to read [Joshua 1]. The words of LORD to Joshua should be the words to us all.

Do not think evil days are far away. It may be years away, just as Jerusalem was not destroyed immediately after they killed Jesus, but many years later; but a day of judgement, a day of reckoning will surely come to our generation.
