What do dreams mean to you? What do you relate them to?

Hi, I'm new to the forum and I am an art student who is doing 'Dreams' as a project, where we need to produce a piece based of thoughts and dreams.

Therefore, basically, I just want you to give me ideas about what /you/ think aobut dreams. For example:

atmosphere (sunrise, sunset, midnight, moon)
religion (gods/goddesses)
artist works that remind you of dreams (Josephine Wall)
music (piano, violin)
fantasy (fairies, elves)
nature (forest, sea)
loved objects (necklace, friends, family)

Get the idea? Basically it is a mind map of all to do with dreams, it can be as broad as you like! ^^ Thank you.

Re: What do dreams mean to you? What do you relate them to?

Stra_Mag,
What we think about dreams. The list you provided seems to focus on the muse aspects. And those are an important aspect of the human psyche. But the first thing to understand about dreams is the psychology. The psychology of the individual. That is what dreams are about. To understand this will require you to do some homework. I suggest you begin here the Hero's Journey.
But this is about myth you say. To understand the dream there must be an understanding of myth. Myths are the collective. Your list is all about the collective.

Dreams are private myths.
Myths are public dreams.

I'm sure someone else will offer better insights to your question. Since my 'universal' sign is of the Trickster, I am allowed to wear two faces {masks}.

Stra_Mag,
A great diagram. The only thing that needs to be added, and under the center heading of Dreams, would be Jung. Then your diagram would be complete.

Re: What do dreams mean to you? What do you relate them to?

Stra-Mag,

To me a dream is a multi dimensional collage interwoven of metaphor and meaning...life.

And some possibilities
Action: forces, cycles, connection, direction, position, movement

Abstracts: knowledge, wisdom, good/bad, moral/immoral, ideals (truth, justice, etc.), profundity, abstruse, emotion, association, decision, tool to restore to normal state, series according to plan, progressive

Best wishes to your creative endeavor.

Regards,
Kathy
