hi,
a lot will depend on what else was going on ,
if you could post the whole info it would help.

Anubis as i am sure you know is from egyptian mythology,
he was associated with death,but more as a go-between,
a transporter of souls into the underworld,

as a metaphor,it may represent some method,or technique you can use or are using to access the inner dimensions of the psyche/spiritual realm,
dream work could be one,
but as i have said,
a lot will depend on the context in which this symolic figure is appearing,
