Dream interpretation of dog

Can anyone interpret a dream of a black sleeping dog similar to a doberman in appearance, which all of a sudden wakes up and starts barking ferociously and then goes for my hand. As this dog bites my hand, it is holding on with such strength but the dream seems to revolve around the dog and less on myself. It was almost like I was invisible to this experience and I had no emotions towards it. Anyway the dog eventually let go after shaking it off.

Many Thanks

Re: Dream interpretation of dog

A black dog is the instinctual animal aspect of your total existence, your psychology and biology. It is perceived by you as threatening and dangerous, which is normal. Dreams are products of nature, they have a healing purpose. The purpose of this would be to convey to you that your ego and conscious personality is too confrontational towards your natural animal nature, and that this nature is revolting against the ego personality. Whether you ought to behave more natural or more civil, the dream only presents the conflict, it is up to you to cultivate a relationship with these aspects of yourself. Probably you have an idea which type of person you are. The arena of the dream is where you experience the dynamics at play that make up the entire personality, the place where our naive conscious notions of ourselves meet with the reality of our situation. Jung and Campbell pioneered this new synthesis of modern man and anthropos.
