The Viking is moved in with a cloud of dirt

A few nights ago I had a series of dreams in which I was Princess Diana. The one dream that I can't stop thinking about is the one I will post here. I have very rarely had a dream where I am actually experiencing the smell.

THE VIKING IS MOVED IN WITH A CLOUD OF DIRT
I am Princess Diana and sleeping in a bedroom. Not sure if my husband was in the bed with me or not. In the middle of the room is a crib, with my sleeping baby. It is dark in the room but just enough light to see. Suddenly another bed is moved into the room, pushed by a nurse in an old fashioned nurse uniform, with a short veil over her hair. The bed is dirty and dusty and so is the huge man that fills the bed, he is hairy and unkempt, wild, but now he is either ill or handicapped. (He reminds me of one of those Vikings from the Capital One advertisement that asks, "What do you have in your wallet?") He is trashing a little in bed but laying flat. There seems to be a cloud of dust from this and tuffs of fur, swirling around and a strong smell of rotting wood, mold, decay---dirt and dust settles over me and all over the room. I am not happy about this dirt and smell. The nurse that is with him I had hired her to take care of him in the past. This wild man is the real father of my baby but if I let them stay he won’t take the baby away or lay claim to this child. The room is very crowded now and
I tell the nurse that in the morning we will move to another bedroom and they can have this room to themselves and not be so crowded----in my imagination I see the room clean and spacious. It seems that the crowded condition of the room is the reason for the move.

Re: The Viking is moved in with a cloud of dirt

Pat,
I will provide an interpretation Sunday morning. It is not often I get to work with someone of your age, most who post dreams are under 50 and even younger. I am curious if your participation in Jungian dream work is something that extends from previous psychology interests/studies or did it come upon you more recently in another form? Did your spiritual search lead you to Jung? Or perhaps a serendipitous event similar to mine {Joseph Campbell}.

Jung's theory of synchronicity is very controversial but in my experience it is real. Small co-incidences that occur when you least expect them but often at an opportune times that fit with the need {helping hands of fate as Campbell wood put it}. It is as if it is nature's intent.

This coming from someone who looks for factual reasons and truths in everything. But I don't see the concept anymore suspect than believing in God. Both are thought of as 'metaphysical' possibilities and both have to be experienced to be realized. My more recent and memorial experiences were associated with serendipity more so than with God.

Of my first experience with Joseph Campbell some 18 years ago, when I happened to see his popular PBS {6 hours in length, shown over six programs} interview with Bill Moyers in 'The Power of Myth}'. After that one interview, I was merely one hour away from becoming someone different than I was an hour previous, I knew life had changed for me. I have been on that path ever since.
Many of Jung's patients became Jungian psychologists. To teach, to share what they knew. I believe they experienced a higher level of knowledge, understanding and awareness, and realized 'this is a truth'. And then when you live it life 'opens up'. As Campbell stated 'I don't need faith {God}, I have experience.' Experience is wisdom. The greatest wisdom comes from knowledge about self and Self. Self psychology.

Re: The Viking is moved in with a cloud of dirt

Pat,
These are unconscious aspects, away from your normal environment, with the potential of new possibilities. These new aspects are not yet realized but there is enough conscious awareness/desire for you to contemplate them.
This is what I read from the opening of the dream, the exposition, which is pointing to a central conflict. The male could have to do with either/or your true husband and/or your masculine aspects. Likely, in some associations, it is addressing both.

The nurse would be associated with this masculine aspect. It also relates to your past. Something is rotting, decaying, and it settles over you {makes you unhappy}. The masculine is a part of you but is separate, or opposed, to the new possibilities. You need to move to another 'room' or aspect in your life. This is in your imagination, dreaming of new possibilities?

Does this fit somewhere in your life? You have to determine where the masculine fits {possibly/probably in tow different aspects}. The child is something recently born, still developing within the unconscious. The new room is what it is in the dream-clean and spacious. The old room is crowded, handicaps you and your greater potential.

Re: The Viking is moved in with a cloud of dirt

Jerry,
Working with my dreams, reading about the psyche --all of this is stirring up a lot of things---buried and forgotten or repressed. The nurse figure in my dreams has always been a guide or helper to me so my sense is that she is moving something in that needs to be dealt with--from the past perhaps and/or masculine aspects. Shadow work for sure. When I posted this dream and was describing the wild man the question "what's in your wallet" seemed to click and may be connected to all the purse dreams I have had. I am getting connections from other dreams I have had and I thank you for your thoughts. I will respond to your previous message later. Thanks again, Pat

Re: The Viking is moved in with a cloud of dirt

Hi Pat & Jerry

Haven't been by for a while but thought I would have a look in on an idle moment.

My instincts were akin to Pat - that the Viking is a relic of your past - something that is decaying; no longer of use.

But the keys that I think haven't been touched on as yet is that the Viking is the father of the baby - what I gather from this is that this new development is somehow related to whatever it is the Viking represents. The Viking won't claim it, so perhaps it is related to a death / birth transition, that coincides with the move to the new room?

The other key is that you are the Lady Diana. My question is, why? I think that may also add insight to the dream meaning.

Sweet dreams,
Rook
