Tattooist sex? PLEASE HELP

A male friend who I am attracted to was a tattooist in my dream (he's a DJ in real life) was demanding that he tattoo me and I didn't really want to. He later kissed me and called me baby, which made me feel safe and secure, then tattooed a butterfly on my left arm, then we had sex. I have had no previous romantic relations with this man. I am also in a relationship with someone else for the past year and 9 months, and we both have been under a lot of stress lately and I have been considering leaving. Im a 21 year old female. This dream has really been bothering me, so if anybody knows anything about what this may mean, help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Tattooist sex? PLEASE HELP

Tori,
The dream is most surely addressing issues related to your present romantic relationship since there is a lot of stress involved with it and you are considering ending it. But my sense the dream is also addressing issues of not being satisfied with other aspects in your life. This is not unusual {another aspect of the dream} because all dreams have at least two meanings/applications. The current issues with the relationship and deeper emotions are most likely the focus of this dream.

The DJ/tattooist is someone who has left an 'impression' on/with you {dreams use a language of symbol and metaphor}. The kiss could represent romantic feelings but it could also point to creative aspects. Perhaps his being a DJ and being associated with music has a bearing on the impressions. His calling you baby may point to the need for 'new' feelings of security which could point to what may be lacking in your present relationship. The deeper association may be a need for security in your life because your life is not as fulfilling as you wish it could be {music, the muse, tends to fill some of those feelings}. The dream language 'made me feel safe and secure' would support those needed aspects. The tattoo butterfly could point to a 'transformation' of sorts, one away from your present situation to something more 'beautiful'. That cold involve a better relationship or/and something that would be better for your life {romantic/creative/spiritual}. The left side of the body represents the heart, emotions, intuition with the arm representing an 'extension' of yourself and 'bringing in/about' something. The left arm could also symbolize the creative/metaphysical {love/romance} aspects. Having sex is less likely to be a straightforward application but mean bringing together/uniting aspects in your life that are in conflict.

Another meaning/application of the dream {a much deeper one that is usual in dreams} is about insecurities you have because of early life experiences related to childhood. We all have issues from childhood and dreams are always addressing those foundations because the earliest years in life are what form our attitudes and personality. You way you react to experiences in later life have foundations in your early life experiences/influences. A need to feel safe and secure could be an issue from early life. If so those attitudes would contribute to how you feel about yourself in the present time. If your current relationship is lacking something then there could be unconscious energies that contribute to this. The dream is likely addressing something related to these energies but the primary focus is more likely related to your dissatisfaction with your current relationship as well as other aspects of your life that do not provide you with feelings of being safe and secure {with as well as within yourself}.

Here is how I interpret the images/actions in your dream {looking for emotional patterns from them}.

-male friend I am attracted-positive animus/masculine aspects
-tattooist/tattoo me-providing a long lasting impression
-didn't want to-rejected aspects
-kissed me-romantic/creative aspects
-called me baby-
-feel safe and secure-a need for feeling secure
-tattooed butterfly-romantic/metaphysical impressions/aspects
-left arm/had sex-uniting with true self/fulfilling what is lacking in your life

Re: Tattooist sex? PLEASE HELP

Tori,
That would be the 'impression' he left on you. If you were attracted to him it would include that as a 'masculine' aspect. There are layers of meanings in dreams and recent 'emotional' experiences that had 'energies' are one of them. If you were attracted to him that would be one of the meanings/applications of the tattoo/tattooist image. The kiss and butterfly images would suggest 'metaphysical' aspects which could include romantic feelings if you were attracted to him. The left arm would suggest there is something lacking in your life at this time {dreams reflect emotional energies at the time you have the dream} and that could go to the dissatisfaction with your current relationship. You had sex in the dream which again could point to physical attraction but also could point to a need/desire to find something that would bring about/unit a good relationship. This would address one layer/level of what the dream message is focused.

But again there would also be other aspects related to emotional energies you need to bring about fulfillment in your life. There are always at least two meanings/applications of the images/actions in dreams. One would point to the current emotional energies I described above. Another would go to the source of your personality and attitudes. Why are you the person you are and why do you feel the way you do about life, relationships, etc. We all have preset preferences in adulthood and those are influenced by early life experiences and environment. Why is it you are attracted to certain type men? Why do some people constantly get involved with relationships that are doomed to fail? More often than not there are underlying unconscious energies that influence these decisions/actions. If you go back to your childhood and look for an experience{s} where you may have been called baby {by your father perhaps} then you may see associations to those foundational experiences in the dream. What early life experiences left a strong emotional impression on you? The dream would be addressing those issues also. I say this from experience working with dreams {using Jungian concepts} and it always fits. Often in the two or meanings in a dream there is one that possesses a greater energy. Yours would likely be the recent experience with the DJ and the troubled relationship you are in. The foundational aspects would be secondary but would still be an issue that needs your attention because it does have emotional energies that could affect you sometime in your life.

One last comment about the layers/levels of dreams. The reason I need the age of the dreamer is because younger people's dreams more often are focused on recent experiences. If there are severe emotional issues then the foundational aspects may be the primary focus. With older people dreams would more likely address the foundational and overall emotional experiences in their life and the current/recent experiences having been influenced by their early life experiences. A younger person is in the process of accumulating emotional baggage whereas an older person has already done that. It is the 'emotional baggage/energies' dreams are trying to communicate to the dreamer in an attempt to help them resolve the issues. Jung states we are meant to be emotionally 'whole' and anything that prevents that will be the subject of our dreams. The intent is to bring about wholeness and happiness to the dreamer's life.Dreams are nature's tool to help resolve emotional issues/conflicts. Just as the body has the immune system {provided by nature} the psych{ology} had the dream}.
