Re: Last nights dreams

Jerry,

I have read over your response and am trying to come up with an adequate response but the right words have alluded me. I would say that one thing that has happened to me in the last few years has been a greater sense of awareness. I took the Myers Briggs personality test years ago and have recently revisited it. I was listed as an INTJ and I certainly exhibit many of those habits. I know that in my mind I have what I would call my "ideal" self, and I am not living it. I am sort of what I would call on the cusp. I do things that I would like to do to improve myself one week and then spend a few days a week later on a 2 or 3 day bender. I lack discipline and consistency and have been aware of this for some time.

This statement "sitting in casino playing poker/black{jack}-indecision in taking chances due to unconscious stimulus," is very accurate. Growing up I had an intense fear of failure/rejection to the point of paralysis. I would simply avoid issues/people/places.

"I was barefoot-self identity issues/low self esteem/lack of confidence." Is certainly true, one aspect that this appears in is public speaking. I have improved upon this but it has been a major setback for me in terms of being a successful person.

"talking to someone friendly-communication with positive self/persons." I have had several very positive people in my life but have thus far not maintained communication with them on a regular basis.

I would say one aspect in my past that I realize now is that I approached life from a very logical perspective and did and still do to an extent lack emotional intelligence. I realize that this has caused me to miss out on relationships/friendships and generally caused me angst that did not rear its head till years later. I try not to do this but often times I wish I could just go back 5-10 years to relive certain moments and make decisions not based in fear.

I will post again if anything else comes to me, what is your take?

Thanks,
Samuel

Re: Last nights dreams

Samuel,
I appreciate the response to my analysis. In one aspect related to dream analysis and Jungian concepts it does seem my interpretation of the images/actions. The first dream focused on the positive improvements you have made and 'consciously' work to improve while the second dream focuses on what still work. These fit with your response, the positive endeavors to improve but still lacking all the tools need to get to that place you wish to be {"I do things that I would like to do to improve myself one week and then spend a few days a week later on a 2 or 3 day bender"}. You are taking two steps forward then one {or more} steps back. Further examination of the dream and having a response may shine light on where the problem lies.

The good news is you are consciously working to improve your self. The bad news is not being able to get past the underlying {unconscious} energies to get to the 'promise land' of total wholeness. These energies most likely stem from early life conditions, the living conditions as a child which could have stunted your personal growth {early years of life are most important in forming personality and personal attitudes}. Although there was not any physical abuse in your childhood the psychological effects were mots likely different. Even with good parents living 'without' many of the things others possessed in childhood could/would have had a daunting effect on your psyche {I know from experience this to be true/my childhood was one of living poor}. These conditions would likely be the stimulus {or lack of} for being afraid to take chances and feeling 'left out' from the 'club' because of the living conditions {negative conditions}. Being barefoot in the dream would point to the lack of proper foundations {no shoes} as well as the actual experience of not having the desired things in early life. These would be what needs to be examined further and understood as why they still have the affect on you as an adult.

But lacking desired necessities in childhood would be but one part of the problem. If you go back and examine not only the conditions of your childhood but you as a boy, you may see why your life has taken the path it has. When I looked back at myself as a young child I saw a boy who had positive attitudes but also one who had a lot of negative issues related to living conditions. Looking at oneself as a third person often opens your eyes to who you were and why you evolved as you did. The beginnings/foundations for who you have become are 'stagnated' in childhood. The twists and turns from those beginnings shaped you but it is the foundations that are so solid that must be 'broken' through so to know what energies exist {from your early life} so you can make changes in those to move forward. Dreams can be quite specific in what they wish to communicate and your dreams point to 'taking chances'. The dream language of 'working alone' may point to emotional issues as a child where there were feelings of going it alone. Your comfort zone {as a child{ may have excluded 'taking chances' because of feeling inferior to others around you {because of my living conditions I had these type feelings as a child}. feeling left out {"My friends are aware that they left me"} would apply to be left out among your peers as well as the inner issues of being left out. Those inner issues are what remain from your early life experiences and are what motivate you/unconsciously control you as an adult. Apologies/excuses would fit with these energies as well, self apologies you had no control over {as a child as well as now} and 'inner' excuses that leave you without the necessary tools to progress in life as you should.

The second dream seems to be addressing the 'whole' of what the problems are {with less specificity}. Being at work is both an inner experience in resolving the psyche issues as well as issues in your actual job {all dreams/ all dream images have at least two meanings/applications}. Walking around in T-shirt and shorts would represent moving through life with the unconscious issues I mentioned. It also points to a need to 'expose' what is unconsciously underneath {underwear beneath your outer clothing}. Being barefoot is addressing the living conditions as a child as well as the self esteem issues {the first being at least part of the reason for the second}. You are consciously aware of some of the issues but not aware of the underlying energies {going through the lockers/what is locked away from conscious knowledge}. The apologies {in first dream} are what I penned in my initial analysis, apologizing for what you do not understand about yourself/not knowing your true self. This is what you face when having to make decisions in life. An apologetic attitude that limits your ability to be as positive and progressive as you should be. Friends {unnamed/unknown} in a dream usually symbolize positive aspects {named friends would address these aspects as possibly pointing to real people}. The 'work' you are doing/need to continue to do in trying to understand why you are not where you wish to be in life is a positive aspect {do all you can do and the rest will fall into place}. Talking to someone friendly is the inner communication with yourself about the issues in your life {may point to an actual person you see as a positive influence}. Something recently {prior to the dream} has 'caught' your attention which could be very positive in your life {the trip to Korea/what is that about?}.

I have touched on what the two short dreams have to offer. Further dreams will be more forthcoming with new details {they always do, especially when you take an interest in your dreams and make an effort to have them analyzed}. If you will post a more recent dream perhaps we can discover more about the underlying issues.
