The relationship between mythology and the unconscious

I often refer to Jung's archetypes in mythology and dreams. This video {link} provides insights into similarities themes, structure and symbolism in various mythologies around the world and throughout time. Why do so many cultures have the same images? They come from the collective unconscious. The collective unconscious contains cognitive structures which have evolved throughout human history and those are common to all humans {whereas the personal unconscious is composed of elements drawn from an individual's life history}. These common structures are what Jung called 'Archetypes' and are manifest in various images and patterns. These same images and patterns also manifest themselves in dreams and depict the dreamer's attitudes and psychological patterns. They assist the individual in the process of psychological development and maturation. Watch this short video and learn more, and be enlightened.
