the dragons breath

hi ,
before i go off line for a while,i would greatly appreciate your thoughts on this powerful emotive dream i had last night,
i watch as a small light aircraft escorts a passanger plane in to land,(maybe a security threat)
now in the passanger plane with a female,
i see a huge billowing ball of fire moving up through the plane,i protect the female with my body, chanting some sort of spell.the fire passes us and we are totally unharmed,i take control and find the exit to safety.
we return home and carry on as if nothing has happened,
it slowly dawns on me that i have been reborn
with feelings of delayed shock.
i felt as if i had been breathed on by a dragon, the magic spell i chanted stopped the flames from burning us.
my next realization was that i had forgotten to tell anyone that we had survived this ordeal.
while i can't help noticing the mythological theme ,ie rescueing the female from the dragon.
is this dream also telling me, that my journey,my story should be shared with others?
many thanks ,steve

Re: the dragons breath

Thanks for sharing this dream Steve - this was my response before I got to the end of your post - it seems important to post / document these dreams as a record; there is also deep learning in this for those of us who follow this site.

And thanks for your thoughts on the talisman - I need to assimilate but it feels right.

Re: the dragons breath

Steve,
One statement that Joseph Campbell made that has profoundly stayed with me throughout the last 12-13 years {since I first realized my spiritual path} was that the hero returns to the world of social duty and shares his the knowledge {boons} that he/she has realzied from the journey.
Campbell tells us that the lessons we have learned are to be shared. And as did Jesus and the Buddha, we are to become teachers, not as an ego endeavor but as a manisfestation of the sharing of the soul.

Re: Re: the dragons breath

gerard and justin many thanks for your thoughts,

my recent jesus and the magic spring dream ,seemed to imply that i keep it to myself, this latest dream implies the opposite.
perhaps something has happened between then and now on a conscious/ unconscious level to change the outcome of the latest dream.
consciously i have looked at the one symbol that has gained strength and power in my dreams, leading to a showdown of sorts, that is, the primordeal cave bear.
we met in a recent dream,it was now a spirit cave bear,it sat on me and pinned me to the floor,i summoned up a supernatural strength and pushed upwards,we seemed to merge into each other.
we left the cave as one.
i see this as a metaphor for my struggle to come to terms with ,and assimilate a tremendous power,an ancient power that dwells in the depths of the unconscious.
it wasn't what i expected, and certainly not for the feint of heart.
perhaps it is this experience that has brought about the change between the two dreams,
i know that this experience is part of the road of trials ,and a preperation for the rest of the journey,
i thank joseph campbell and jung for the gift of map and compass, and MDS for the over night stops.
regards steve.

Re: Re: Re: the dragons breath

Steve,
Look at the metaphors and all the possibilities. Opposites are not always opposites, they are just another way of expressing an unconscious aspect of your psyche, a view of the actual life without bias. When I think of opposites I see metaphors, not a literal sense stating a fact. Remember, symbols are metaphors of the collective and personal life, with an emphasis on the emotional. The key word is metaphor. Literal is an 'opposite.

How to apply the metaphors to the personal life is the next big question. I look at the myths for understanding, but here again myths deal in metaphors, the exaggerated aspects {myths are both fact and fiction}. In life facts are what are actually happening, fiction is what we want to happen. The EGO is fiction, the inner life is fact. The dream is the third person account. For the waking life, when one realizes their journey, discerning the whole thing is a task within itself, and is the real journey.
