the muse

i would be grateful for any comments on this mythological themed dream,
i walk on a path through a very greek looking garden, the path appears to be a set route,
i arrive at a bridge over a river ,similar to the type you would see in venice, very arched and ornate.
i stand in the middle and i sing a haunting song, like aragorns in return of the king,
a female appears next to me on the bridge,
i see that she is not especially pretty,
but she makes up for this with her poetry ,
on hearing her voice and the way she expresses the poem,
i feel compelled to kiss her,and reproach myself for doing this,i say to myself, why did i do that,
inner voice says, because you like her.

the bridge was called the bridge of erato,
which i know is the name for one of the 9 muses from greek mythology,
not only this, she is the muse of poetry,
while i feel she is an anima figure,
its possible , she is in seductress mode,
representing the temptation of the physical pleasures of life,
i couldn't help but notice the similarity in theme from the story of gawain and the green knight, the kiss.

i would welcome any comments.
regards steve

Re: the muse

hi,
just felt that i had to post this find,
sounds familiar,
obtained this from one of my previous pieces of collected info, unknown origin.

for though a man has sorrow and grief in his soul,
yet when the servant of the muses sings,
at once he forgets his dark thoughts,
and remembers not his troubles,
such is the holy gift,
of the muses to men.
awesome stuff.

Re: the muse

Hi Steve, I once had a dream of a garden with Jung and myself walking the path, and I was very annamored with him to.There was another me above drawing pictures of this. which reminded me of your questioning yourself in the dream.I can't tell you any thing about the mythologies of muses....But did she like the kiss?. Are you feeling comfortable in your relationship with her? Were you worried that you may be seduced? And I wonder was she really in "seductive mode"just because you found her attractive, perhaps she just wanted a moment with you) with regard,Nicola

Re: Re: the muse

hi nicola,
thank you for your comments,
i wasn't really attracted to her physiaclly,
i thought, she wasn't all that pretty,
i was more, beguiled by her words,
and yes she didn't mind the kiss,

i am in a transition.hence the bridge symbol,
i feel, i am not here, and not there yet,
if you know what i mean,
sort of in between,
this would be a good time for the muse to descend and inspire ,perhaps this is what she represents,
the inspiration i have sought,
this is still something i need to discern,
alot of my dreams have contained this sort of motif,
namely,something i am not attracted to ,
but in actual fact turns out to be of great benefit,
time will tell.
thanks again nicola

Re: the muse

Hi Steve, There’s probably a truth in that for all of us. That looks can tell very little of a situation or a person. I thought the kiss important because it was an interaction . And interactions are a great way of discovering things, and things about others. And you were curious about her. I am being simple ,and I’m glad you didn’t take offence. I think often simple works well. Sounds like an interesting time ,this transition. Thank-you for filling out the story. It has the ring of a quest about it. Still I like that word, transition, and wondered if I might use it myself instead of the ‘wilderness’. I read or heard recently that art /creativity comes from a place beyond emotions. I thought of this again when you described the bridge over the stream. Nicola

Re: Re: the muse

hi nicola,
yes transition is a much more friendlier word than wilderness,
when we follow the call to step away from the
so called, thou shalt system,it seems the wilderness is the place you find yourself,
but it is a place of initiation, where initiation is, transition is too.
live the journey.
