I am going to view and possibly buy an S17 Speedex on Wednesday 3/19/14.
The present owner says it is but one speed forward and one speed reverse.
How can such a tractor be comfortable with jobs ranging from tillage & plowing to road running? Or is there a pulley missing?
Is it possible that there were originally pulleys similar to th edrive pulleys atop a drill press, where changing grooves allows 3 speeds?
I would like to find out before then, just what I am facing..

Hi Pete,
You are right. Those S series tractors had a double pulley arrangement that aloud for changing speeds by moving the belt from one set to another thereby getting more speed or more power. Works pretty well also. Good luck with your purchase!!
