stack muffler

Does anyone have instructions on how to make a stack muffler. It would br greatly appreciated

Re: stack muffler

Just did mine and it came out great. I had replaced the rusted out mushroom with a new one and it was still really loud. When a kid turned down a tractor ride because it was too loud, I knew I needed to do something else.

I used a cub muffler (not cub cadet) and had it welded on to a 4 inch piece of 1 inch galvanized pipe. The gasses are bad when you weld to galvanized, so be careful. You have to take the carb off to get the "manifold" (1 inch 90 degree elbow) out. It'll probably be rusted on, so it will take some finesse. I replaced the elbow, ran it parallel to the ground and connected a 7 inch pipe with another 90 degree elbow angled straight up. Then I screwed in my muffler. I built a bracket from the bottom motor mount up to the 7 inch pipe and strapped it down with a radiator hose clamp. Painted all of it with black manifold paint before I put it on. Looks pretty good for a homegrown job. Cost about $25 for the muffler and the paint. The good news is it cut my sound at least in half. Sounds much more like a tractor. You can really hear the single popper. Also it was a good excuse to rebuild the carb. Really easy. The whole project maybe took a day, including paint prep. I will eventually post pictures.
