When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support,  to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are.  They are there for the reason you need them to be.  Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end.  Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk away.  Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand.  What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done.  The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.

There are many different responses to crisis. Most survivors have intense feelings after a traumatic event but recover from the trauma; others have more difficulty recovering — especially those who have had previous traumatic experiences, who are faced with ongoing stress, or who lack support from friends and family — and will need additional help.

Hi my name is Trini, I am a survivor of a notorious right turn on red. My accident happened on October 13,2006. I was traveling at 50 mph on a two lane hiway. I had traveled to South Padre Island, Texas to attend a Biker Rally. Five miles before I would reach my destination a woman driving a mini van makes a right turn on red. I had 2 choices, lay my bike down and skid under the van or T-bone her, I chose to T-bone the van and hit her driver door and bounced off the van and flew over my windshield and skidded on to the oncoming lane on my helemt. I always wear my protective gear even at that my leathers weren't a match for the black top. As I'm skidding on to the oncoming lane I noticed a set of lights headed toward me, I thought this was it. A split second decision I had made would end my life. Well, the on-coming driver was a trauma nurse on her way to the hospital. She parked her truck in a way to block any other traffic and she asked me if I was ok, can you move your legs or arms she asked? At the point I'm looking at her and saying to her I can't feel anything from my neck down, she re-asures me that she is there and that she will take care of me she tells me that I'm going into shock not to worry, next thing I remember waking up in a Trauma Center Hospital in Harlingen, Texas.
They ran all kinds of tests, at present I remember my surgeon telling me that I had a Guardian Angel and that my right leg had broke in four differnt places so I would need a Titanium plate to
hold my leg together and lots of road rash so while they are running tests I having surgery on my leg, well I was in ICU for 5 days. Finally the group of Drs decide to release and let me go home for ten days then had to return to remove stiches. From that point on I cannot get around so my wife takes me to the police dept to get my information. The officer that made the report tells me well she admits that it was her fault however she won't be able to do anything for you she is visiting from another country and had no insurance, so turn back to Austin where you came from and pretend this never happened! I did not like his response so I went to the Justice of Peace, he told me the same thing, this is a small town, go back to Austin and let your insurance take care of you. He did give the option to file sued against the driver however she would be returning to her country so I would be wasting my time. My hospital bill, life flight transfer and everyone else that had anything to do with me was over $150,000.00 plus I was unable to return to work for 3 months! What happen to her? She got a $300.00 ticket for no insurance that she will never have to pay unless she moves to Texas!!! This was small town mentality! So my insurance went after her with no results, she could have killed me and gotton away with it.

It took 1 year to date for me to get back on my bike which my insurance (Progressive the best)restored to its original look. They gave the choice of totalling it or fixing it so I opted to keep her. It took $6000.00 to get her back the way she was prior to my accident.

People driving tons of steel need to be held accountable for their stupid mistakes, whether it was a cell phone or arguing with the kids its still their fault, even if they are visiting from a different country there should be consequences.... I lived to talk about it, many of my brothers and sisters riding have not, for them we should continue talking about it!

Trini,

Thank you for you post to Bikers Accident Survivor Forum, and for the support your giving to our group. This seems to be happening more often with distracted, inattentive drivers. I am so pleased to hear of your recovery, but at the same time, I hate to see the driver that caused your injuries, elude the responsibility she has to this.

With great respect
