Something to think about

If you are in transportation or the shipping department of your company, this might interest you:

Last year, major freight railroads in the U.S. moved ONE TON of freight an average of 436 MILES on ONE GALLON of FUEL. This is an increase of 3.1 percent from 2006. This information is reported by the American Association of Railroads. Since 1980 railroad fuel efficiency have reduced fuel consumption by 48 BILLION gallons and reduced the emissions of carbon dioxide by 538 MILLION TONS. It is also reported that if just 10 percent of the freight currently moving by TRUCK went instead by RAIL service, the nation could save 1 BILLION GALLONS of fuel per YEAR.

With the current state of affairs with the price of fuel, this is something to think about.
