trans brake ???

ok guys im in need of some info.what is the rule for transbrake equiped cars for the brackets.can i run a car that has a transbrake if it unhooked?or will i be forced to run the car in box?

Re: trans brake ???

There are a lot of footbrakers that have a t-brake that don't use them. Most have the switch for reverse mounted out of the way so it would be obvious to the starter that it is not being used.

Re: trans brake ???

if the starter knows anything about drag cars he should know if someone was useing a break, totally differant sound leaveing the starting line.

Re: trans brake ???

From the IHRA website: "Modified ET – The use of Delay Boxes, Throttle Stops and Trans Brakes are prohibited. Two Steps are allowed on clutch assisted entries only. Pneumatic or electric shifters permitted."
Now Bobby is correct you can have a brake in your car, but you must have an ON/OFF switch, instead of a button, on the dash or some place other than the steering wheel or shifter. Some people take the button off the wheel and lay it on the floor that way they can reach it for backing up.
As a former starter I can tell you yes you can tell the difference between a brake and no brake car staging, but I can also tell you it depends on how the drivers stages. I can also tell you the starter is looking for other things than how a car reacts when the motor is brought up against the converter. Frank K., the IHRA Div 4 director made it plain that he does not want to allow cars with transbrakes in the MOD class because it opens the door for cheaters. He made this clear last year during the season and again at the track owner's meeting in PV at the finals. His number is on the IHRA web page.

Re: trans brake ???

I chose the toggle switch option. And have it mounted, not sure having it layin on floor is best place for it. Make sure you cant accidentally bump it going down track that wouldn't be good. Lookin forward to some foot break racing this weekend.

Re: trans brake ???

I had my T-brake wired to a toggle switch on the dash in my nova. But I burnt up 2 solenoids forgetting to turn the switch off after I'd back into my pit spot (Pro Brake).

After the 2nd one I switched to a button (still on the dash). Have raced in both IHRA and NHRA bracket finals and nobody seems to have a problem with the button, as long as its on the dash.
