I grew up with AHRA in the 60s-70s. I ran my first nat'l event at Green Valley in 1972 in M/stock optional, I was 18 years old. AHRA was big then and there was'nt much differance between them and NHRA, At least in my eyes.. It was always for the little guy, but it had it's SUPERSTARS as well.
I would like to see them make a go of it, but realistically I'm not sure there's room for any more major santioning bodies. IHRA is struggling and had to make a major changes in their program.From what I seen on the AHRA site, there very similar to I, but with even more classes. That's a little ironic, because when IHRA came on in the early 70s, they copied AHRA classes/rules to the letter.
Maybe if they focus in the right parts of the country and keep it dedicated to the small guy, they can have a piece of the pie, I think I would support them.
NHRA has brought this sport a long way, but I see them as a big bully who pushes the racers around and tries to smash other race groups like ADRL and IHRA.I guess that comes with being the big boy on the block..
