Houston Raceway Park will officially become Royal Purple Raceway in 2011

HOUSTON (Aug. 17) - Houston Raceway Park will officially become Royal Purple Raceway in 2011, partnering two successful Houston-area businesses born in the late 1980s.

For 23 years, Houston Raceway Park has provided motorsports fans in southeast Texas top-notch professional drag racing on its historically quick quarter-mile drag strip. The 500-acre facility, owned and operated by the Angel family, added a world-class, high-banked, three-eighths mile dirt oval in 2000, making it one of the premier racing compounds in the country.

Celebrating its 25th anniversary, Royal Purple was founded by synthetic lubrication pioneer John Williams in Porter, Texas, at the request of an oil production company that was using the semi-retired Williams as a consultant. Williams colored his groundbreaking blend purple to set it apart from the competition and Royal Purple has set the standard in the industry ever since.

"It's an honor and privilege to officially unveil Royal Purple Raceway to the world," said Seth Angel, general manager and co-owner of the track. "We've developed a great relationship with Royal Purple over the years and there's a real synergy between our two organizations.

"We can't wait to show off Royal Purple Raceway to the hundreds of thousands of fans that attend the multitude of events we hold here each year, including the O’Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals, an ADRL National event, numerous American Sprint Car Series races, PINKS All Out, the Super Chevy Show, and many, many other happenings."

Aside from naming rights of the facility the Royal Purple brand will be prominently featured on the drag strip tower and VIP suites at both racetracks and numerous signs and billboards throughout the property. Tentative plans also include using the facility to film some episodes of Royal Purple's online web series, The Forum Wars. The online home, www.RoyalPurpleRaceway.com, will be effective Jan. 1, 2011.
