Yep sounds like good news, i have raced at Angleton from the start, it has all ways had good folks working there and racing, and i would like to thank Rickey for keeping us a place to run, but out of his control the track is bad and needs some work.
So yep if the new ownership is interested and plans to repair & replace it will be good for Racers, Spectators, & Owner.
Jack, I hope the little bird is right !because we love this little track and all of the people who work and race there. but we were having issues in the shut down area, bouncing like a trampoline. the dragsters are just too low to the ground for the track conditions at present. But a little work here and there. count the Rockport crew in for 2011
Keith
I hope the shutdown/return road area will be priority, I believe that is what has kept many dragsters and fast cars away. The scoreboards, PA system also needs to be brought back in order, the rest is cosmetic and needs a good clean up.
You are right Jack on the return road and shutdown area being the areas of need. But the track as a whole is good I hook as good at Angleton as anywhere. a little clean up is always welcome, I could use that same advice at my shop. would like to see a full program in 2011, I think the cars will come if a few things were addressed,
Keith
I think some racers should get together and form a little committee and come up with a "TO DO LIST." Then lets put it out and have people sign up and volunteer thier trade. skills and manpower to get the track looking sharp!
I bet there would be a hundred people show up! I know Jack is well respected in the racing community and loves Angleton, he could head it up! The main thing is to get going now!
Im ready to help when you are guys.
Issues I see are 1: track needs to be scraped BAD.
2:Shutdown area is as said bumpy. 3: return road lighting. Its fine for street cars and people with headlights but for some of us with real low cars you can easily make a mistake. 3: The cosmetics(grass height and pit area) 4:The stands are in poor condition after all these years and should be addressed before injury occurs. I would also like to see our local track do well and have been running out there since before they even had the timing system setup.
You know me and my shop and family enjoy this track. And it is sad that it has gone down this far, and I have recently posted this same thing to do some clean up and track prep, etc... Regardless of who owns or who is going to own, the track needs work and we as a community could do a lot if we really want to. I have personally talked with several people who would have no problem helping improve the track conditions. So I am game and yes a little committee would be good to organize the efforts of who and what we all could do. So count me in and lets get moving.
