We are thinking about going. I sure need to make up my 1st round loss at the Nationals this past weekend.

Anyone?

I might do it coach, I want to support Temple, they are the only track with enough nads to ever pay any good money on a regular basis. It seems there is always a reason I cant go..

I've never been to Temple, so I have a couple of questions. Is that $2500 to win each class, or is it some kind of combo race? If seperate, can I run both classes?

Thanks

Bill

Bill it is $2500 to win each class and you can run both.

Good luck to those who go.

Looks like I may have to rethink this weekend. It now shows 50% chance of rain. Looks like the honey do list will get worked on this weekend.

Showing 30% now at 3:30 Saturday. Do they try to wait out the rain, or do they usually cancel the race immediately? Just want to make other plans if it looks like the race might not happen.

"they are the only track with enough nads to ever pay any good money on a regular basis"???

Yeah you might want to jump on the gravy train while you can, because having been there this past weekend I can almost guarantee you it won't last much longer unless the owner hit the lotto or something.

Am I the only racer that actually feels bad for track owners who pay out on events that probably don't generate enough income for the track to break even? $2,500 for Mod with like 25 cars and $2500 for top with like 25 cars, plus the bottom spread for RU and semi's, there's no way the track was able to do crap for profit when you take into account the other expenses incurred. I don't know what it costs to put on a race, but you have to figure labor and insurance costs should be a pretty good chunk.

I happen to like having a close track to race at, and running a business like that will close up shop pretty fast. So I don't think it takes nads to pay good money on a regular basis, I think when you have such poor car counts it takes a lack of common business sense.

Re: Anyone thinking about Temple this Sunday? $2,500.00 to win N/E $ Top

bracketeer, i agree on most of what you say, temple has always been consistant with their money races. Im sure they cant continue or would want to continue these events if the car count is down. I dont really think they paid out a full purse if they didnt have the required amount of entries. As far as good business sense goes, they must be doing something right, they have been opening the gates there every weekend for a long, long time. all I can say we need to support them as often as we can......jack

I went to Temple for the first time this weekend, and I was shocked when I saw how few cars were there. It was run very well, and the staff seemed to be very knowledgeable. I wish I could tell you if they paid the full purse or not :(

Re: Anyone thinking about Temple this Sunday? $2,500.00 to win N/E $ Top

This is what I heard the payout was:

Top: $2,500 - $500 - $250 = $3,500
Mod: $2,500 - $500 - $250 = $3,500
Jr: $400 - $200 - $50 = $650 (3 or 4 cars)

I only race there out of necessity, because it's close. The staff there has always been great, especially Stanley and Mr. K, and I really do like the track. Not too keen on the owner, because I've had some pretty serious issues with her, especially since she took it back over. It's easy to tell she's trying to do a lot of the same stuff the guy running it before was doing, but it's just not working out as well for her. She's trying to make a name for herself, and change her image, but don't be fooled, it's still the same lady.

Re: Anyone thinking about Temple this Sunday? $2,500.00 to win N/E $ Top

How was the new track surface, smooth, good hook, etc??

Re: Anyone thinking about Temple this Sunday? $2,500.00 to win N/E $ Top

The new surface was poor at best, at least for me. The starting line was pretty good, but about 60' out it started to go away. Now instead of the usual bumps that were there, you have the bumps in the concrete, plus the transition where the new asphalt was laid. The new asphalt is like ice once you hit it, and it will take a good while for it to come around. I never would have though repaving would have actually made the track worse, but in this case it seems to have done so.

Re: Anyone thinking about Temple this Sunday? $2,500.00 to win N/E $ Top

I wasn't too thrilled about the traction, but I thought it was probably me. The burnout area is short, and my car runs too slow to burnout over the starting line, so I guess that didn't help much.

Re: Anyone thinking about Temple this Sunday? $2,500.00 to win N/E $ Top

Ive raced at temple for many years, in a varrity of cars, I remember when it was a 1/4 mile track! Ive seen it when you had to change dials 2-4 numbers in each lane and ive been there when it the lanes were equal, before they trimmed the trees back, you could count on leaves being on the track in the fall. All in all i've always had a good time there, it always throws a curve at you when the shade comes in over the track. It's a old school track compared to the S.A., hrp and pine valley and I like that, i also like the trees, the friendly people and everybody barbeques and don't forget it has the best spectator seating i ve ever seen, espesially at the top end stripe. Temple will always be a challenge and the locals know that, i hope it never closes, if it does we will be losing a piece of history, thats the way racing used to be 30 years ago....
