Hanna returns to 'roots' at Houston Raceway Park

BAYTOWN, Texas - NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car rookie Will Hanna will be returning to his 'roots' during this weekend's O'Reilly Spring Nationals presented by Pennzoil at Houston Raceway Park. The 26 year-old made his first laps down a drag strip just over 13 years ago behind the wheel of a Jr. Dragster here and hopes to have a 'breakout' event in front of his hometown fans in the Advanced Transmission Center/Clack Motorsports Monte Carlo.

Hanna, who lives a little over an hour from the track in Richwood, Texas, cites data gathered from their last outing at the ACDelco Gatornationals two weeks ago should put them in a position to improve this weekend.

"We didn't set the world on fire in Gainesville," said Hanna. "But we did learn some things. The car also threw us a few curveballs it hasn't thrown at us. So we're attacking this weekend from two angles, concentrating on the car and improving the tune-up. We've replaced some parts on the car to make sure we don't have something acting up and throwing us off. We did get one clean run in Gainesville with some decent shift points, and that told us we're dead rich on the fuel system, so we're going to start pinching that down this weekend as well. Bottom line is we just need to get point A to B the first run and adjust from there. The first run is very, very critical. We lost that in Gainesville when the transbrake wire came undone in the burnout, and I think we were about one run away from figuring it out."

Team Owner/Crew Chief Harry Clack hopes to see improvement based on their last outing.

"We always strive to continue forward progress," explained Clack. "We didn't have the progress we would have liked to see in Gainesville, but we still learned some things. We're in position to adjust for some things the car threw at us, so hopefully the pieces will come together and we can get the car where we need to be performance wise."

Hanna hopes to do well in front of his hometown family and friends.

"Honestly at this point in the game, I'm more focused on getting this car to run right, and doing my job as a driver," stated Hanna. "I guess being the rookie and not being expected to win, I don't feel as much pressure. We just want to go out there and do the best we can, collect some good data and make a good showing Advanced Transmission Center and our associate sponsors InsideTopAlcohol.com, InsideCompRacing.com, FWRC, Goodridge, RBS Superchargers, Moroso and ISC Racers Tape. I think we're close to running some respectable numbers, and I'd love to do it here in Houston where I started driving."

Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars with two sessions. Qualifying will conclude Saturday morning with one final session, followed by round one of eliminations in the afternoon. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for the latest news in alcohol racing.
