RONNIE SOX, (OF SOX & MARTIN) FROM BURLINGTON, N.C. PAST AWAY FRIDAY FROM A LONG BATTLE WITH CANCER.. HE WAS A TRUE LEGEND IN THE EARLY 60-70"S OF OUTLAW MATCH RACES AND THE BIRTH OF PRO STOCK RACING.. I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO MEET HIM AND GET A PICTURE WITH HIM AT THE MOPAR SHOW A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO AT HRP.. HE WAS A TRUE HERO, A MOPAR LEGEND AND WILL BE MISSED...
I got his autograph at HRP during a Mopar event too. Even though I was a Bill jenkins fan during the 60's and 70's, Ronnie was a true pro and a heck of a 4 speed driver. The sport of drag racing has lost one of the great ones. Sorry to see him go.
David , thanks for the e mail. Some people had baseball and football stars to remember as heros when they were youngster, well I had drag racing stars. I was lucky enough to see Ronnie Sox and Dyno Don, they are both gone now, it seem like yesterday when I used to read about them in the drag mags like super/stock and hot rod. It just goes to show how short life is, so we better live our lives to the max every day !!!
