Live to Race!!!

Race to live!!!

You are one tough Guy Jay!!!

Footbreak Fool!!! Glad Barnyard knows the Robinson's.

Re: Jay's Hotel. The last pic. Prescott Raceway.

I remember in 1972, I was 18 years old, my dad , me and a friend flat towed ( tow bar for those to young to remember) my 64 falcon to Green Valley Raceway in ft.worth for a big AHRA race. We towed all nite up the "old hwy 75" which was single lane hwy here to DaLLas. We stopped at a couple of truck stops and had coffee and honey buns, about 3.am we stopped in kennedale, just out of ft.worth and sleep in the back of the pickup truck in front of a salvage yard, man we were real racers, i was living the life of a traveling drag racer that nite and i loved it! That memory will last forever. I.ve traveled a many all nite trips since, but its just not as fun and adventurist as it was when your young, my body wont allow it anymore!! I'm happy and proud for Jay that he has a great passion for drag racing, hopfully he will meet his goal one day, but if nothing else he will have some wonderful memories.....

Re: Jay's Hotel. The last pic. Prescott Raceway.

Gee Jack, I grew up in Dallas, started racing at GVR in June of 72 when I was also 18. On some race date in late '72, I was on a time trial with a falcon in the left lane. The falcon broke a u-joint and pitched the driveshaft over my hood, rather exciting for sure. By some odd chance was that you??? If that was, we need to get together and review some history (about +30 years of it). Have a good evening!

Re: Jay's Hotel. The last pic. Prescott Raceway.

I preety much have the same style room. I just wish that these tracks that had multiple day races would put in showers.

Re: Jay's Hotel. The last pic. Prescott Raceway.

THAT WASNT ME, BUT WE DID GET SIDESWIPED ON THE WAY UP THERE.. IT WAS A INTERESTING EVENT TO SAY THE LEAST. MAYBE WE SHOULD COMPARE NOTES, IVE GOT SOME PRETTY GOOD STORIES OF MY RACING TRAVELS, IVE ALSO GOT QUITE A FEW PICS FROM THE OLE GREEN VALLY DAYS, EASTEX DRAGWAY, BATON ROUGE, OLD HOUSTON. Re: Jay's Hotel. The last pic. Prescott Raceway.

Hi Jack! (gee I remember when those two words together at an airport could get you arrested...) I don't have your email address, I can be reached at whv714@aol.com. We can "chat" about the old days, but I do want to get together and see your "old" photos. Glad that there is someone from my generation (era) that can "help" me with my past.

Respectfully,

Seems like a bazillion years ago...WHEW

Re: Jay's Hotel. The last pic. Prescott Raceway.

Well I got a Eastex story to see if someone can top. My brother and I are major gearheads and have always been, got it from Dad!!! Anyways the story is we had been fibbing to Mom and Dad and telling them we were going to a friends house for OH about 4 weeks but instead were going to Porter instead. Now mind you Im only 18 and my brother is 15. Anyway Eastex was having the I think they called it King of the Hill or something like that. We watched for a couple of weeks and got the bug so I entered one and really didnt do too well. Well the next week we went again same old story to Mom and Dad but this week we convinced the tech guy my brother was old enough and it was his turn. Well long story short the little turd went out and won the whole dang thing!!! Anyways we got home a LOT later than we had all other weekends this one and Dad had went out to move my car so we could all go to church Sunday morning and dummy me left my Drivers license in the car and of course all hell broke loose when he thought that I had gotten a ticket. Well my brother went out to the car where we had the trophy and the check stashed. We fessed up to what we had been doing and presented Mom and Dad the trophy and check. Mom wasnt too happy about it but Dad smiled and very obvious he was delighted about the whole thing. Well he had to fuss at us to save face with Mom but later said he wished that he was there and fussed at us for not invitng him to go to begin with. Now we are 43 and 40 and STILL race and LOVE every minute of it. By the way Mom came around and NOW she's the one who LOVES to go racing. Gideon Family Racing is really that. When we go we all go usually. Mom,Dad,Me,Wife,son,daughter-in-law,2 daughters and of course brother and his wife. You want to chat stop on by and we can talk about old times at Eastex and HIR loved every minute of it.

Re: Jay's Hotel. The last pic. Prescott Raceway.

i had many a good years at porter, we would tow from galveston to porter every sunday (75 miles one way) we would pack up the kids, and the load the car and go on our jouney, afterwards we would all go out and eat with friends.. in the 70"s eastex would have a monthly modified/ comp show and a super stock/ stock race. I can remember all the hitters that would show , like nickens bros., reher-morrison, *** shop, dennis faerman and others who have left their mark,, oh yea, how about the Emmons clan!! I seen them grow up there...I loved that track, full of pine trees and BBQ pits... Ive got pictures of Jay and me there and I will post them soon, ive already started sorting through some pics...........later

THE LATE - THE GREAT - EASTEX DRAGWAY!

THIS IS MY FIRST TIME TO VIEW THIS WEB SITE. I WAS SURFING AROUND LOOKING FOR ANYTHING ON EASTEX DRAGWAY. MY HUSBAND'S FATHER WAS THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THAT (BILL SANFORD) AND I WANTED TO SURPRISE HIM WITH SOME PHOTOS OF THE DRAGSTRIP. IF YOU HAVE ANY OR KNOW SOME WEBSITES I CAN TRY, PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

THANKS,
DONNA
