My Story about the old HRP pictures....great memories

It's funny that my dad posted those pics on bracketrash.com (home page), i forgot we even took pictures, but I'll never forget that day. It was overcast and humid, it looked like it was going to rain and I can remember sleeping on the way up to the track. Back then it seemed like it took forever to get to the track, about 3-4 hours of driving, but it was only about 1 hour. I also remember being a little aggravated to be going cause it was about the 5 or 6 trip out there . Heck what was there for a 6 year old kid to see but a buncha dirt and concrete. The best thing tho was i remember putting both of those heads up qaurters in each of the burnout boxes and my dad telling me all the great things that are gonna happen to those qaurters. Like topfuel runs and burnouts and all kinds of my heroes racing over them, it really got my imagination going. Back then I couldn't relize how much enjoyment the track would bring to me, I think I speak for everybody who races at HRP when I say that it means alot more than just a drag strip to us. It's really a place of escape, to get away from work and the hassle of the real world and go compete at a high level and do it with your family and friends. There is no question of the comrodory among fellow racers, it's like a big family and alot of those friendships have been for 20+ years. I get caught up alot of the times and take racing to serious when I know I do alot better just having fun. I always say that winning is fun, but the truth is you have to have fun to start winning. But anyway I love drag racing, yall know that old saying a bad day racing beats the heck out of a good day at work...I guess that's true but those good days at work are what keep us racing, It's a love hate relationship..LOL..I can't wait to get back to the track, a week is to long.. type to yall later...

Re: My Story about the old HRP pictures....great memories

The first time I saw it was about a month before the Fall Nat's. We were on our way home from a boat race in LIberty and decided to see if we could find it and to see what it looked like. I remember that the tower was not completed yet and there was no way it was going to be done before the Nat's. Lo and behold, we went to that first race and it was totally awesome. Couldn't stay till the finals as I had to go to work at the night shift. But just to walk around the pits and gte up close was a feeling I will never forget. Now I work the last turnaround and get to see my racing heros every time they make a full pass. I LOVE DRAG RACING..............Bobby Iven
