Egg nog helps 106-year-old man
EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill., Dec. 26 (UPI) --
A 106-year-old East St. Louis man attributes his longevity to living right and sipping egg nog with whiskey.
John McGilberry, the oldest resident at the Virgil L. Calvert Care Center, can still walk and he's looking forward to reaching 107, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.
His only regret? Not moving to California while he was still young enough to make the move, the newspaper said.
McGilberry was born May 25, 1899, in Laurel, Miss., to Matilda and Jessie McGilberry. He was one of seven children and has outlived them all. He never married and has no children.
McGilberry said living right --and a glass of egg nog with whiskey on Saturday nights-- kept him in good shape. "I didn't know I was going to live this long," he told the newspaper. "I believe I lived this long by being good and obeying people. I tried to treat everybody friendly."
