Robert (Bob) Maurice Ellis, 89, of Mountain View, Arkansas passed away at home on April 23, 2020. Bob was born January 24, 1931 in Leon County, Texas to Robert Ellis and Delores Turner Ellis. Bob grew up in Louisiana with his brothers Marvin, Frank and Pete.

Bob joined the Marines in 1949 and attended Boot Camp in San Diego, CA and then was assigned to Camp Pendleton, CA. In July 1950, he participated in the First Marine Divisions Inchon landing and then erved during the Chosin Reservoir campaign.

Following his Korea assignment, Bob was stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii where he met his future wife, Evelyn Nakama Ellis. They were married March 28, 1953. Bob served two tours as a Drill Instructor at MCRD San Diego and served two tours in Viet Nam, 1968-1969 as First Sergeant Fox 21 and 1972-1973 as Company Sergeant Major. His personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Combat V and the Combat Action Ribbon.

He retired as Sergeant Major, Marine Corps BaseForce Troops, 29 Palms in 1976. Bob was active with the Vietnam Veterans 2nd Battalion 1st Marines GHOST BATTALION Association. Bob was recently honored at the 2019 Marine Corps Birthday Reunion as being the Senior member of this organization. He was extremely proud to have two of his grandsons, Levi Conroy and Jamen Ellis follow his footsteps and become Marines.

After his retirement Bob moved with his wife and three youngest children to Mountain View, AR. They bought 135 acres, built a house, farmed and ran livestock. Bob attended Arise Church from 1985 to present. He was happiest fishing at his favorite spot in Florida, watching the Hogs play football, and soaking up the sun in Hawaii. He loved his family and his friends became family. Bob was a long time Gideon and part of the prison ministry. He was instrumental in the building of the jail Chapel at the Stone County Jail.

Bob is survived by loving wife, Evelyn and their five children. Son, Bob Ellis of Mountain. View, AR, and his son Rodney (Kaycee) Williams. Son, Mark (Rodda) Ellis of Trabuco Canyon, CA their sons Christopher (Laura) Ellis, Tristan (Kristin) Ellis. Daughter, Dorothy Ellis (Tom) Conroy of Marco Island, FL and their sons Levi (Kinti) Conroy and Nash Conroy. Son, Shawn Ellis of Mountain View, AR and his children Brittney Ellis (Aaron) Marshall, Tiffany Ellis, Kaitlyn Ellis, Kendra Ellis and Jamen Ellis. Daughter, Desiree Ellis (John) Griswold and their children Matthew (Claire) Griswold and Jade Griswold (Devaan) Choppala. Bob and Evelyn are blessed with 28 Great Grandchildren. Bob prided himself in always knowing the current head count. Bob was preceded in death by his father Robert Ellis, his mother Deloris Ellis, brothers Marvin Ellis, Frank Ellis and Pete Ellis.

Bob was loved by so many and will be dearly missed. A memorial service will take place at a later date when it’s safe for friends and family to gather and celebrate the life of this good man.
