Dreaming while awake

I have to fignt off dreams while I am awake. As soon as I get quite and close my eyes I start to dream. When I go to bed I clise my eyes and let a dream take me to sleep. My dreams are complex and seem real. I often have funny dreams and wake my wife by laughing in my sleep. I sometimes remember things from my dreams and believe they really happened. This gets me some funny looks. Does anyone else have this problem?

Re: Dreaming while awake

Hugh,
I would label your dreams 'daydreams' more so than waking dreams. Dreams most often occur during REM sleep {Rapid Eye Movement} and usually that happens during normal sleep. But we can drift off into REM type sleep when we daydream. It is closer to meditation where the mind slowly dissolves into a trance like state. Here is an article that may help you better understand this process.

Re: Dreaming while awake

are you on any anti-depressants or anti-psychotics like citalopram? Some of the side effects are sleep disturbances and hallucinations which would explain some of these "daydreams". Of course if your not on any medications then ignore this post.
