I can't figure out this dream..

I had a job in a kind of port of discharge. There was another coworker. There was also a third person who was Paulo Portas (public figure - vice-prime-minister of Portugal). He was speaking about oil. He said he bought this oil for a kind of boiler. Paulo Portas spoke about oils with the other, and I saw that he knew about the subject. He spoke he was buying oil in a warehouse and said that an oil was better than the other. These oils were for a kind of a boiler to heat. I asked if it was for a kind of boiler like my father has, that does home heating. I then explained better and said that my father has a boiler to provide heat in the winter and to heat water. I felt I was explaining very good what it was. Then I made a kind of grace saying that my father had another old boiler which worked with wood and looked like a train. He was not amused and asked what I meant by that. The other realized I was just joking and tried to explain that It was just a joke. I did not care much. I thought he was just being stupid. After that I was being transported by a crane with them. The crane took me to a kind of forest. Then one of them started talking about cars. One said he thought he had a colleague who had phoned yesterday and told him that the new Volkswagen Golf R-line was very beautiful. I thought they did not realize anything about aesthetic, and the new golf was course very beautiful. I thought of saying that it one of the most beautiful cars, but do not know if I dared to assert this view. The same time, I continued being transported by the crane to a portion of a pine forest, which I recognized as being a pine forest that exists behind my parents' house. When I reached the top of the pine forest, I thought that was a great distance from home and I could only go so far because now I was an adult. At the same time, there was a girl and she came after me. I was to tell her that when I was her age I couldn't go to that point in the pine forest (so far from home). At the same time I thought she was being very libertine because she had come after me to that point of the pine forest, because she liked me and wanted to have a relationship. After that, in that point of the pine forest, I was watching medical books and I told the girl that I had studied all those medical books while I had been on Medical School.

Feelings in the dream: In the dream I felt some deal of envy for Paulo Portas knowledge. I felt some confidence when I thought the other was just being stupid. Then I thought I had a more aesthetical taste then other (in real life I think that is true). Then I felt happy beacuse there was a girl after me and in real life I have no girlfriend and not even anyone interested (I think).

Reality context: I am facing serious problems in my professional life. That is the most important point of my life. I am not working and I don't know if I will continue or if I will change of work. Emotionally I have a very close relation with my parents and it's difficult for me to separate from them.

Re: I can't figure out this dream..

Luis,
My sense is the dream is focused on your current position and what to do about improving your and your life {Portas would be someone you associate with because of his decision making as well as his success}. I sense there is indecision not only in which way you need to go and what to do but also of pressures to stay in the same field of employment. Is there pressure from your parents concerning this part of the decision? The fact you are considering new opportunities may fit with this part of the dream.

The one symbol I think most important is the girl. This is not a girl in a literal sense {although relationships may be another aspect the dream is focusing as well as in your life}. She would be you feminine self, your anima. But more important 'she' appears in the last part of the dreams which points to a conclusion of the emotional conflicts the dream is trying to communicate.

My sense while reading the dream is there is a conflict between taking a direction that will let you prosper financially {the direction your father wants you to take} and that of doing something more in line with what pleases you. That may involve creativity or doing something not for the money but because you like doing it. That is where the feminine aspect would have a part. A pine forest would symbolize not only strength but also being free of the social pressures. That would involve being your true self and not what others want you to be. The pine forest would be a strong person but one who makes decisions based on what he/she wants to do and not is required by others.

Being 'stupid' would, in the view of Jungian psyche, living a life dictated by society, and not what you really want to be. We all have unconscious drives and although a lot of them come from early life experiences and influences, there are also innate mechanisms we are born with {Jung's archetypes}. To make a long story short, our true being needs and desires to be unencumbered by society {held back} and in life that involves doing the things you love doing most. Including your profession/job. If you do it solely to make money you are off your path. But if you do it because it is what you love doing, you not only are living life to its fullest but what you need in life will be there when you need it.

This may sound grandiose but believe me it is a part of natural being. Explore Portas' life and see if he didn't go beyond what the norm in his path to being successful. And although his success has brought fame and perhaps fortune, is his story as much a bout serving the people? This may be an unconscious association you do not realize {but which the dream does}. The beginning of the dream points to this aspect and so does the ending {the feminine aspect which is the soul}. Consider this point in making your decisions if you have not done so already {which I believe you have}.

Re: I can't figure out this dream..

But,

In my real life I don't feel that conflit between doing what gives me money and what gives me pleasure. I finished medical school and now I have to follow a speciality. I was in one residence, but I had some troubles with my chiefs and I think is better to change of speciality. At this point of my life, I don't know which is the job that gives me more pleasure. I only know I have to be with my feet on the ground and chose a job that gives me a way of living. The decision of changing speciality depends on the decision of a special organism. I also don't which speciality I like most. I have some difficulties with medicine. Is like I don't like nothing in medicine. But I can't change because I don't have any formation in other area.
In resume, I am long time in my field and I think I don't have the capacity to change yet. Maybe later. I don't know which are the alternatives I would chose. I like more creative fields as you said. I am not having success in medicine. I can't adapt to it, but there isn't nothing more. I don't have any other formation,

Re: I can't figure out this dream..

Luis,
If you substitute what gives you the most pleasure {a choice of specialties} , then what I provided fits. Unlike most who have to choose between fields of employment you will likely prosper financially no matter what decision you make. With what little I know about your personal life I can not provide exact details to what the emotional conflict is {emotional conflicts are what all dreams are trying to help the dreamer resolve}.I can only see around the perimeters of what it might be. There is a limit top what can be determined from any dream

You state you would like to move to more creative fields. That fits with what I suggested. That is where I associated the feminine aspect because creativity is 1}a feminine aspect of the psyche 2}the creative aspect is the greatest strength we can have in life {pine forest}. It could be addressing waking life associations to females, as a secondary application. But only if there is a conflict to do with relationships in your waking life. I sensed it as primarily addressing creative/metaphysical aspects.

As for doing what you do for money instead of because it is what you like doing most. In your field no matter what specialty you choose you will make good money. I will say, if in life you choose to make money instead of serving your patients, you can count on Karma evening things out. Nature has its way of rewarding good deeds, or coming back to bite you for doing bad deeds. It is called cause and affect. Hopefully your oath to serve is not for the money but for the service you provide in healing people. Jung discovered a 'spiritual aspect within the psyche. Jung's work on himself and his patients convinced him that life has a spiritual purpose beyond material goals. Our main task, he believed, is to discover and fulfill our deep innate potential. Based on his study of Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, Gnosticism, Taoism, and other traditions, Jung believed that this journey of transformation, which he called individuation, is at the mystical heart of all religions. It is a journey to meet the self and at the same time to meet the Divine. Unlike Sigmund Freud, Jung thought spiritual experience was essential to our well-being.

I emphasize this point since it does seem to be important to your decision making.

What about my suggestions about Portas? And your father? When a 'famous' person is a part of a dream it is usually because there is something about that person the dreamer identifies with. As for your father, is there a conflict with him about which path you choose? The part about the old boiler and the joke {a little may have gotten lost in translation} seems to be directly associated to some aspect of the relationship with your father {in some dreams a father can symbolize a higher aspect of the dreamer, or even a spiritual aspect as in God the Father}.

Overall I believe I got most of what the dream was trying to express. There was a bit lost due to cultural translation {ie, grace to the father is not a phrase used in American culture, unless it is spiritual}. But the aspirations as I pointed out in mt response seems to be correct. But my goal is not to be right in my interpretation to satisfy my ego but to help you understand what emotional conflicts the dream is trying to communicate. If you take the time to do an internet search on dream interpretation, then take more time to post the dream, then you most likely feel it important.

Re: I can't figure out this dream..

Thank very much,

I really want to do my individuation, I want to realize the self. I want to learn more about dream interpretation, because I want to learn to interpret my dreams alone. For instances, in which places can I find information like the pine forest is associated with creative strenght? I would like to find books so I can learn more.

In relation, to my father he is not forcing me. I father is somewhat passive. He's personality is passive and tender as a woman. My mother has a stronger personality, and I can say she is the man in my parents house.

But I have a friend, that is kind of a therapist and I see him as a father. He is doing some force that I stay in the same speciality. But in the dream I was not thinking on me.I was thinking on my real father.

I have a creative mind. I always been into arts. literature, design, and I can say I have a more feminine psyche, a more romantic vision, than a stright masculine perspective of life.

Re: I can't figure out this dream..

Luis,
Individuation is something that requires a lot of discipline as well as a deep desire to be a spiritual person as well as to grow personally. It takes a lot of time to inspect, evaluate, and make adjustments to original attitudes we grow up with. Especially if those attitudes were negative to begin with. You have to have a desire to discover who your truly are and worked toward being that person. From all I have learned, and applied, from my own journey the attitude has to be about discovering the creative and spiritual identity. It involves a death and resurrection {if not a total annihilation} of the ego so that it no longer is the guiding force in your life. Material worth is not what makes us truly happy but the 'bliss' in life. That thing you love doing most. Most often it has to do with the muse, creativity, and always comes from the spiritual soul. But it can be something else you love doing. If being a doctor from a stand point to heal people and not to make money, the that could be your calling. You don't have to be poor to be spiritual but it can't be for money to be your bliss.

As for interpreting dreams. Read Jung. And learn to develop your intuitive senses. If you have a good feminine psyche then you have an advantage with the intuitive mind. I am working on a simple guide to interpreting dreams that should help you. I will provide insights to how I look at dreams and interpret them. Dreams are not the great mystery there were since Jung discovered their symbolic and metaphorical language. And that the archetypes do play a key role not only in dreams but our individual lives. Dreams are about the emotions and the unconscious energies that drive us to be something other than who we really are. Early life experiences and influences shape who we become but the unconscious archetypes do also. To learn to understand these energies will go a long way in understanding dreams. I hope to have this guide finished within the next week.

As for your creative mind. If there is one thing we all strive to be is our true selves. And to be that person always involves the 'bliss' factor. doing that thing your soul wishes for and not is required by society. When you are in that element you are being your true self. The greatest goal in life is to be able to be that true person all the time. That is a total transformation. That is true individuation. You can't put it on the back burner forever or you will never achieve the goal. Responsibilities are a fact of life and you can't ignore those. But if you work toward being that true self, removing one social obstacle at a time, the eventually you will realize your bliss. Determine what you bliss is and work toward that. Set a time frame and stay with it. I spent the past twenty years working toward my goal and now that I am retired I am doing what I love doing most. Working with dreams and being creative in designing my websites {I added several pages to my The Power of Dreams website just in the past two weeks}.
