strange domestic scenes

Hi Jerry,

I had a dream that seemed in an odd way some sort of sequel to the one I posted recently ("not-good-enough gifts"). This one had a more positive tone overall but was more fragmented and not as clear to me.

I had gone down a couple of flights of stairs, on the landing inbetween there was some slime and blood that made the footing a bit treacherous, but the steps themselves were clean and dry. I then ended up in a large kitchen which had to have been my home but seemed like a restaurant kitchen. I was standing at a big industrial-style sink and my younger son was at my side and we were cleaning up and washing dishes. It was pleasant doing this work together, sorting things out, and visiting about everyday things. There was also someone else off to one side sorting through some dishes on a shelf. He was like a jester figure and the plates were painted in vivid patterns and colors. At one point he held a small stack of large ones but on top there were a couple of tiny jewel-like ones and maybe a ring or small glass ball too. Back at the sink, there was getting to be a lot of water and slop on the floor. I was wearing some black dress pants with wide legs that draped to the floor and they were getting wet and also covered in blood. I'm not sure where the blood came from but I thought about what was on the landing. We were done with the dishes and I was getting ready to leave and go clean up, being a little irritated with the mess and at myself for wearing dress clothes while doing chores. As I left, going up or down some stairs in a different direction, I started thinking of salmon -- and maybe that's where the blood came from -- beginning with salmon as food but then going backwards to how silvery they are even when they're dead and ready to be cooked. But even more so when they are alive -- then their silver is a flashing scintillating thing that you see for a second or two and then it's hidden.

When I woke up (or maybe I was thinking about the dream while still asleep if that's possible) I had this impression that the dream was full of small people going up and down stairs, and back and forth, carrying things here and there and sorting through them. It seemed clear to me that these little people were inside my brain, maybe like molecules, or the neurons sending their signals here and there and constantly organizing and re-organizing this inner space.

Re: strange domestic scenes

Jaime,
Here is what I get from this dream. As usual it is addressing both current emotional issues as well as the underlying issues that are the foundations for many of the current issues {this how dreams function-at least two applications/meanings to every dream}. At your stage of life any unresolved issues to do with causation are usual, the dream's attempt {nature's mechanism} to help resolve emotional energies that are still in conflict and have at least some control of your conscious life.

You have insufficient foundations {mother issues one aspect of this} which caused emotional issues and presents a need for substantial emotional nourishment {may be applicable in your adult life}. Despite these unconscious energies you have learned to survive, partly due to your responsibilities with your son {this may be more applicable when you were younger and raising him} and partly because of activities/relationships outside your immediate family. You have learned to control the internal emotional issues because of how you have structured your life {most people merely ignore them}. The 'someone else' is the part of you that is sorting through the unconscious aspects, the emotional issues from your past {washing dishes}. It is an inner 'jester' aspect, the concept of 'fooling oneself' {and in perhaps some aspects others} in believing the internal conflicts are no longer an issue. This aspect allows you to 'cover up' {paint over} the emotional issues that are stored within your unconscious {shelf}. But as with all 'jesters' they carry truths {jewel like ones/small glass ball*} about oneself the conscious self may not realize. This is your current waking life.

But an inner cleansing {sink} is still necessary before you will be able to live a truly harmonious life. The unconscious {water} aspects contain a lot of emotional waste {slop}. The unconscious aspects affect who you are, your personality {black dress}, the broad specter of the emotional issues having to do with your foundation support {wide legs}. These internal issues affect your energy source/resources {blood=emotional energies}, being a part of the 'grounding' {landing} you grew up with. You carry on in your conscious life despite the 'mess' that is left over from your early life. You still are wearing the 'dress' from those early years even as you work with the emotional chores as an adult. There is a need to express these inner issues/emotions {salmon} and perhaps a waking determination to make appropriate changes so to understand the reasons for your motivations and be able to control the emotions from that {especially the reasons for the dead feelings you may have}. These inner emotional issues that have been hidden away are now beginning to show themselves in conscious ways you may not realize or now beginning to realize.

*Anything that is round in shape points to a need/desire for wholeness.

Re: strange domestic scenes

Hi Jerry,

I find this interpretation quite beautiful in a number of ways. There is a lot in it which could be instructional for me, since it is indeed true that I have a "waking determination to make appropriate changes so to understand the reasons for ... motivations and be able to control the emotions from that {especially the reasons for the dead feelings you may have}." Especially the part about the "dead feelings" I may have. It is only in the last few years that I realized I do have these dead feelings. Before my feelings always seemed very much alive, even overwhelming. Maybe they were just masking the dead ones. I love the jester, who is both fooling and carrying truths -- and the precious jewel-like round objects -- so much desire there. The cleanup work, I know I have to do, but I am uncertain what if anything I will find at the bottom of it.

I feel lately as if I'm on this path, not necessarily of my choosing originally, but now it is my choice to stay on it, or not. Staying on it means dealing with my life, going to more therapy, and continuing what I believe now must be a search for these "desired objects" in my inner life -- along with whatever "cleanup" must be done first. This flash of salmon in the dream maybe was a glimpse. Most things in the outward, physical side of life no longer have that attraction for me, I believe it is something else I am looking for.

Thank you for your insights.

Re: strange domestic scenes

Jaime,
Filling the 'void' often comes from discovering what is missing within {psychologically}. Once those issues are realized, confronted and at least partially resolved {they usually have a residual affect no matter what} then your true path will become clear. Of course this is easier said than done and the first step is a true desire to make these discoveries. As Joseph Campbell stated, "We’re so engaged in doing things to achieve purposes of outer value that we forget the inner value, the rapture that is associated with being alive, is what it is all about."

Obviously you have invested some time and effort in your self discovery. Keep looking inward and eventually whatever it is that is missing will show itself. The best place to make these discoveries? Your dreams.
