angels wing symbol

A man sits beside me pointing to one of my paintings:
Do you usually use an angel's wing as a motif in your paintings? he asks. I cant remember the rest of the dream?

(in waking life I have used this symbol, in just two paintings)

Re: angels wing symbol

Hi Claire,

It's interesting to wonder about the reasons that symbol bubbled up from your psyche to manifest itself in your art in the first place. But it does seem that an animus figure is calling you to realize some of the higher spiritual elements that live within you, and that the earlier emergence of that symbol in your art is part of the same process rising up into consciousness. I tend to think the Angel points to the spiritual, and wings to transcendence.

Knowing your past from some of your old posts, I wonder if there's a sense of healing in the dream? It sounds like a very nice dream to have, and I hope you had a sense of peace during your conversation with the man who is an element of yourself.

Take care,
Jim

Re: angels wing symbol

Hi Jim, thanks for your response.
Yes, I guess it is my animus again. Prior to this I had a dream about a male figure 'coming back to me' and crying on my shoulder and me comforting him, so there are obviously issues about maybe feeling separated from my animus for a short while, possibly because of the 'fiercely' intuitive and strong anima/feminine side I have, but then the reconnection with my animus again. Alternatively it could have been a 'wish fulfillment dream about a recent breakup of a relationship and the man 'returning to me' - either is possible I think.

In my art work and especially in one of my 'main' paintings: http://www.artists.ltd.uk/ArtistShow.asp?ArtistID=255
I use an angels wing on the side of the painting to 'hint' and the feeling of being 'one foot in both worlds' and an underlying protection and spirituality that I have needed. Other symbols on this particular painting have included a silver hand pendant (hand with a heart shaped hole in the middle) which is a sign of healing, dragonfly and butterfly which for me is about night and day and the passing of time.
