S17 grill material

I'm looking for the correct material to make a grill for my S17. I just have a big hole there. I've been looking for some expanded metal as I think it would be very close. I imagine most of you use this if you need to make a grill for your tractor. All I can find so far is 1/2" stuff and that opening looks way too big. Seems to me that 1/4" material would be about right but I have nothing to go by. Can anyone help me here?
