Re: Moving to Toronto, hopefully

Just read this on yahoo news too!

OTTAWA (Reuters) - The Canadian economy will have a difficult 2009 and jobs data due later this week will be the latest evidence that it is being hit hard by the global economic slowdown, Canadian Finance Minister Jim Flaherty said on Tuesday.

The market expects the data to show the economy shed 52,500 jobs in February after a drop of 129,000 jobs in January.

"These numbers are not likely to be good," Flaherty told the Senate's finance committee.

The key jobs report follows data released last week that showed the economy shrank sharply during the fourth quarter of 2008. Another contraction during the first quarter of 2009 is considered almost a certainty.

"Canada entered the recession in a relatively strong position but we are facing a very difficult year in 2009," said Flaherty. "We will see our domestic economy deteriorate, it is deteriorating as we sit here."
